Ask me about clothes.

Do you happen to know of any good sources to learn about the styles of clothing worn by Hungarian/Magyar and Polish nobility during the late middle-ages? I've been tryin to some research, but a lot of what I'm finding is about garments introduced much later by the ottomans.

A quick look would suggest that the polish and Hungarian royalty are following general European trends with more fur to accommodate the climate. In the 15th century, the trend setters were Burgundy and France.

When searching, it helps to give a specific date along with location, not that a fantasy novel should have to be exact, but it tends to weed out the stuff that is really out there. For late middle ages I have put in 1450.

I have been making and wearing historical clothing for the past 20 year and did my dagree in costume construction and design.
That’s incredible! Twenty years of making and wearing historical clothing, plus a degree in costume construction and design? You’re basically a walking time machine with a sewing kit. I’d love to hear more about your favorite era to recreate or the most challenging piece you’ve ever made. Do you have a go-to historical style you’re obsessed with, or do you love jumping between periods? Also, have you ever incorporated your historical expertise into writing or worldbuilding?
