Does using any of these historic names bother you?

    The culture is originally nomadic (from an area not unlike Turkmenistan) which then settled in an area which at the time was heavily influenced by an empire which ruled there. "Sir" is a western European word, with Pasha being a rough equivalent in the Ottoman and Mamluk nations. For me, lord and sir both imply a western, feudal fantasy, which is exactly what this culture is not.

    Does that make sense?

    It certainly does and in that case I would agree that using "Pasha" and the like would be a better choice.
