Facing the happy blank page

I was taking a break from writing, to take care of some other commitments, specifically a family history album. Well, I couldn't not write for very long, so I started a new work today. It is a little weird putting down the few first words, even knowing that I'll probably revise them soon enough.

The project is going to be complicated. It involves collecting Heroes from different times and cultures, so I have to be careful not to do anything culturally stupid. Even the number of heroes is significant. 108 would work, but I think it will be 36. More manageable.

Hi! It's great to see you returning to writing! Your new project sounds intriguing, especially the idea of bringing heroes from different times and cultures together. I imagine balancing their individual backgrounds while representing each culture respectfully will be an interesting challenge. I'm curious, what inspired you to choose 36 heroes for this story? Also, are you planning to work with beta readers as the project develops? I'd love to know whether you'll be seeking readers to offer constructive feedback on the story.

Yeah, that first page is always a funny on. For me it's especially the case when I haven't written new words for a while (as happens when I spent a lot of time editing...). That page always feels rusty.

Though I find that even a new chapter can feel a bit awkward and like I need to write myself into it.

For me it's a matter of just write it and worry about it later when it comes to the second draft.

I'm a pantser, and this work was supposed to be a planned one. I have a vague idea who The Heroes are going to be (mostly existing legendary figures), but I didn't make a list. Yet.

When faced with the blank page, though, my immediate thought was 'who to start with?'. After an hour, I knew who, and started writing. So much for planning. I will make that list though. Real soon.
