For those who play games, do you have multiple games you work on?

I tend to have two or three 'side' games for when my brain just isn't vibing with the main project.
Usually no more than that cause at that point my brain is going 'squirrel!' and I can't decide what to play.

Totally, though I usually don't play games in the same genre at the same time because I will mix up the inputs hopping between them if I do. 😅 Right now I am playing Nine Hours, Nine Persons, Nine Doors (visual novel), Two Point Campus (business simulator), Final Fantasy: Strangers of Paradise (action RPG), and Forbidden Solitaire (solitaire).

I've had that issue with playing different generations of Pokemon at one time. WHY must GF move the button for map/menu so often.
I've heard that Visual novel is Peak, but very dark. Another good one is Steins Gate (original) if you haven't yet. Depending on how much cuteness you can handle, Neko Para is also good (Don't get the "uncensored" patch, totally unneeded lol)
I usually stick to RPG's but ones that cover different genres.

I tend to focus on one game at a time, play way too much of it, drop it and then sometime in the future wind up picking it back up again. Currently I'm back to playing WoW.
Oh lord, you mean classic Wow right? Isn't it like painfully slow until (I believe) like level 40 and then it's like WEEEEE

I mostly just avoid Video Games at this point of my life.
Hmm any particular reason or just no interest/time ? I been kinda curious about that.

I have several gaming projects going on.

My two mains are Vermintide, in which I work on finishing challenges and gather up heroic deeds for the 500 deeds challenge as well as Dark Souls 3. In addition to that I also play some Imperator: Rome, Warhammer: Total War and Pharaoh.

*needs footage of Gurkhal fighting nameless King* hehehe
Are you like me where you have the two main projects that you 'focus' on and the side ones are ones you 'chip away' at?

Pretty much so, Vermintide and Dark Souls are my mains with the others on the side. Normally I start the week by finishing the weekly quests done before I turn to Dark Souls. And then I try to get the daily quests done as well in Vermintide, mostly due to to my love of co-op and this gameplay.

I am far from the Nameless King so footage is probably not coming for a while. ;)

Most time is spent on Vermintide due to the insane grind of collecting enough loot boxes so that I can get hold of sufficient Heroic Deeds. Not to mention that while I hate and despise PVP, I love Co-op. So that's another reason to indulge in Vermintide.

No...?

I played Forever during it's beta, but now that it's done I'm messing around in retail.
I'm also just coming back to WoW. I spent the better part of a decade progression raiding, which involved breaking up fights and occasionally pulling over an entire raid and making them portal home while I talked my raid leader/part-time boyfriend down from whatever he'd gotten into his head. I healed and tanked. My dps is terrible, but boy can I generate some quality hate. They call me Mickey. I dance with the enemy. It's good to be home.

I have answered this before.

Video games steal your life away and offer nothing of meaning in return. They are just the new drug. With mechanisms to keep you addicted and playing, and not caring that life is passing, and the whatever it was you were meant to do in this world is going by undone.

While I was long aware of this, I did not actually give up video games until I saw that it was making me a poor father and a poor example to my kids. And that they made everyone unsociable, and surly. Every request met with, 'not now', or 'in a minute' or 'just let me complete this task' or 'let me get to the next save point'. (And usually in a frustrated, begrudging tone). Meanwhile dinner is getting cold, we are running late and cant get out the door, and things needed go by and never get accomplished.

I decided, for myself, that life and connection were more important than the next power up, and the next artificial achievement that would pop up on a screen that mattered to no one, and made no difference to anything.

IMO, video games waste your life and make you unpleasant. And yet, we feed them into our brains like they were heroin into our veins.

Sure, they do hit the reward centers, and they are the new common experience for many. But those many are as caring about you as an addict is to another addict. If it comes between you, and their next on-screen reward, you can wait.

You are meant for better things than that.

I totally agree. Games are a huge time and attention suck. I love console games, but I also agree they can be isolating. My experience with WoW has been different. I've played since Vanilla, and I have made so many friendships over the past two decades. I met my best friend and her husband when their oldest was a wee baby slapping the keyboard while Mama was healing and wiping raids. That baby's about to finish up college.

But it still is a huge time suck, and I had to make a choice, because I couldn't play at the level I did and write. I couldn't make it work, so I stepped away and eventually that is what made the difference. But now I find I really need those connections, and my process is settling down into a nice rhythm. I'm ready to see where the next decade will take us.

I've been doing my best to balance my Game Playing VS Hanging with the Family.
I agree that there are huge negatives to too much gaming, let's not ignore the positives too.

Puzzle Games (Like Zelda) taught me problem solving to a degree that I never quite caught on to in school.
Tactics Games teach strategy and planning. Pokemon and similar games also teach strategy (even though they're fairly easy)
Platformers and games like Dark Souls have taught me perseverance.
Dating games have thoroughly taught me how NOT to interact with the opposite gender to get a good result. lol

I will grant that I probably spend more time gaming than I should, but when I have very few other activities to spend the day, they do keep me occupied. Especially when too sick to do anything else.

Some days you get the bear, and some days the bear wants you to play video games. ;)
TBH if I had to have any sort of 'bear' I'd rather it be something I can (Mostly) control like video games.
There are far more harmful things in the world to be addicted to, it's one of the major reasons I haven't had a drop of alcohol since I was old enough to drink. Too much gaming is indeed bad (like in Pmmings case) but as long as the games aren't playing you I think it's fine.

If it helps, I'm a bit of a shut in/home body (within reason) to begin with, so I don't like going to social outings and such that often. Things like a Convention I might go to but those are expensive. (the tickets alone will run you 80$ - 120$ a person) Bout two to five times a month I take the folks out to dinner and chat with them etc. I love going to the movies but we havent seen like any 'oo gotta see that' ones lately. I do occasionally get in that 'I gotta get out of da house' mood, but there's not too many things I like doing lol (aside from going out to eat and going to the movies)

I've met a lot of entertaining characters through video games and I'm 100% sure that a small portion of my sense of humor was honed from the games I've played. Not all of them are comedies mind (Ok, Idea Factory games are mostly comedy)
