Hello From an Old Person

I didn't realize forums like these existed anymore.

I'm a retiree who has decided to finally take the plunge and make all those stories bouncing around in my brain pay rent. I'm currently working on the second novel in a romantasy trilogy that I'm self-publishing. Well, I intended it to be a romantasy trilogy; it has morphed into what a friend calls "Romantic Political Ascension Fantasy" and yes, that is a genre that doesn't seem to exist yet. ;) I found this site while researching magical fantasy battles and am impressed with the articles available here. I thought I'd see what the community is like, so here I am.

Howdy Meema, Welcome here.

Breaking new ground can have its advantages. People like stuff that is a little different from what they've read before.

Nice avi.

What is old anyway? I am 57. And Skip... Well, some of us are up there.
Old is 63. I'm glad to see some others who can claim more than two or three decades here. ;) I like my avatar, too. It's very...me. Without actually being me, since I write under a pseudonym.

Funny, My avatar is very me too ;)

What was the last forum you were on?
Good question! I can't remember, really; I've spent so much time on social media the last few years. I'm totally burnt out on it, though - Facebook has become this toxic, politically partisan wasteland - and I'm looking for a new place to settle, I guess.

I hate facebook. I feel slimed every time I go there. I never use it.

I like little forums like this one.

I've been looking at another one, but it is so busy, I cant keep up. We'll see.

Were you in writing groups there?

I've given up news and politics for lent. But...we don't allow politics here. So...you wont see much of it (but secretly, I do kind of know the politics of most of the members... it just kind of seeps out at times.)

Yeah, I do too. I had to keep my personal social media pages, though, because they're tied to my professional profiles, but I don't log in the personal profiles any more. Unfortunately, it's hard to keep our political leanings out of our every day communications, but if everyone is tolerant of those small prejudices, things can generally be fine. Facebook doesn't do that. I'm all for places that don't allow political discussions.

I think Ravelry still has forums like these, but I haven't been on those for about ten years. I only go there to look for knitting patterns these days.

I do belong to a couple of writer's groups on Facebook, but these days I post most of my writing-related content in the community section of ProWritingAid's website. Nice folks there.
