How to keep a simple plot interesting?

So for my current story, I'm writing about a woman who runs away from her abusive husband. After she's escaped, she meets people, she's asked about her wedding ring. She decides she's going to throw it into the sea. It's a very simple plot.

I want the book to be an exploration of this characters trauma, rediscovery of the self, womanhood, identity, sexuality, etc. I'm just slightly worried because I haven't thought about what would actually stop this character getting to her goal; what friction or tension I could realistically write to help her grow.

Because I don't want to really have her husband chase her across the land - I want this to be a survivor story, and giving him space on the page would take away from that, I think.

I suppose I'm asking how to write this without it being terribly boring to read, or how to make a story that isn't "save the world" feel like one of those stories, but on an individual scale. Because I know how to write this character, I'm just not sure what to throw at her so that her journey has actual friction and stakes. All I have is the act of healing itself, because it's a bumpy and difficult path to walk.

Any tips appreciated!
