I finally figured out what to do with all my story ideas

I have way too many story ideas and way too little time to write; as in I have 3-5 ideas per day that I write down. I also have three novel series actively in progress, with two of them already over 100k+ and the other headed towards 10k already. I was getting tired of having so many ideas I could never do anything with, so now I share them. I'm using my blog, r/writingprompts on Reddit, and YouTube shorts, and so far, I'm loving it. I love seeing what the folks on Reddit come up with based on the prompts (a lot of times their spin is more interesting than mine lol) and I think I'll stick with it for a while.

Out of curiosity, do you think the forum here would also be a good place to share my prompts, or do you generally feel like you have plenty of your own ideas to work with already? To clarify, I don't share the same prompts over and over on different platforms. I usually have different ones or slight variations on them at the least for different platforms. So I'm not just spamming the same prompts all over the place.

Both! I think most people here have a lot of their own ideas to work with, but that doesn't mean they won't be inspired by some of your prompts. For instance, I have a pretty solid idea of what I want to happen in my story, but a prompt might give me a really interesting idea for a character or a side plot. :giggle:

Maybe you have the aptitude as a type of activities director.

Generally, I've not really seen contests and forum games take off here on MS. I do like to participate to give them some spark, but my energy for it is limited as I am working on the big story and not the little ones.

But you know...if you build it, they will come, has a lot to do with someone wanting to build it and put energy into it.

In a previous site I've been one, there was much more in the way of contests and prompts and more ppl jumping in, but...that site is kind of a graveyard now. I am not sure the characters of MS is oriented towards contests. Part of why I like it here, is the pressure for me to do work is low, which leaves me more free to do my own stuff, and comment when I like. But that's just me.

Unfortunately I have a tendency to "disappear" for a month or two at a time because of chronic illness, so I don't really see myself as being a good choice for directing activities 😅 Or much of anything that requires management and consistency.

I was thinking more in terms of just having a thread that I update at least weekly with one prompt and people can write it if they want or not, as opposed to a contest or anything of that sort. And then people can just scroll through and pick whatever prompts they like best at any time as opposed to having a specific prompt for a specific week, so that there's no sense of pressure.

Yeah, that makse sense! Maybe I'll start sharing a few :)

I was a regular participant in the old 'Iron Pen' challenges - four prompts and a 5K limit. Later, I started 'Top Scribe,' a clone of that challenge, and ran it for a couple of years before everything else became too much.

Maybe somebody with more energy could bring back a new version.

sounds like a win-win! You get to offload some of your creative overflow, and others get inspired by your prompts. Reddit’s r/writingprompts is such a great space for that, and YouTube shorts add a fun visual twist.

As for sharing here, it really depends on the community vibe. Some forums love fresh prompts and might enjoy the creativity boost, while others might prefer to focus on workshopping their own ideas. Maybe test the waters with a few prompts and see how people respond? If they engage and enjoy it, you’ve found another great outle.

This forum’s full of idea-starved writers (and hoarders like us). Fresh prompts = fresh chaos. Just toss ’em in and see what bites, worst case, you inspire someone. Best case, you get their spin to steal. 😉🔥

There was for the whole of last year and some period before a weekly prompt thread. I wrote pieces to some of them, typically at times when something I was working on in worldbuilding / backstory for my novel jived with the prompt theme, or I had a block and wanted to write it out on something unrelated to my WIP. There were half a dozen who regularly contributed to the thread, so some interest certainly, and those not interested ignored it.
