NaNoWriMo....

I'm...debating trying it this year.
The thing that is hindering my choice to do this.
I discovered a game engine (RPG Maker MV) which was easy enough for me to use.
A few months after, a game Jam occurred and I decided to give it a try.

My brain was not ready for the challenge of completing a game in that short amount of time.

We are still a ways off from Nano, but I am sure I will pass on it again.

Did it manage to pull itself up from the ashes?
The Game? Nope, I never got far enough to even present it as something to be judged lol A couple of 'scrapped' stories were intended to be made into games as well.

RPG Maker Uses Java Script now, and there are loads of services/programs that you can use to learn it. (and no I don't mean Chat GPT) Maybe I could give learning Java a go and see if I can make one of my stories into a game. A particular one would be fairly light on 'gameplay' to be honest. One that I'm writing currently I'd want to be a 'proper' RPG (Like Dragon Quest)

One of my stories (one of the two I have on the backburner) would make for a pretty funny visual novel that pokes fun at a particular uhhh... 'genre' of visual novel. (It's not really a proper genre but like, a design sensibility for the characters)

There are plenty of Visual Novel and other games that make fun of particular game genres. Doki Doki Literature club gets a bit...darker than I'd personally go, but it's an excellent parody of dating sims. (It gets you to let down your 'guard' even though it's clearly labeled 'horror' on the e shop)

The funny thing about learning Java Script, Both Minecraft and Hytale use it in their coding, so if I get good enough at it I can make my own mods for both of them.

I dont understand this post. Nano is months away, you can play around with this tool while waiting and do nano when it comes up (if it comes up, cause Nano kind of fell apart). Are we talking about the same Nano?

Are you thinking you cannot do nano because you will be looking at this tool? Like, you are certain you will still be looking at it in November?

=-= Re read the post. The reason I am debating if Nano is even possible to do is because I tried and failed a similar challenge (only it was for making a game)

I did not get enough of the game thrown together to even be presented as a 'finished' product. Heck I didn't even create a thing I was 'proud' of.

The concern is the same thing will happen again if I attempt Nano despite my best efforts.

I am confident in my skill to write, but I am NOT confident in my skill to write a complete story in one month and have it be presentable.

Ah. Okay. Nano is still worth doing cause even if you dont finish, you still have what you did to build off of.

But nano fell apart. I was wondering if it came back somewhere.

Ah. The reason was not present in the OP. Hence the confusion.

IMO, that experience provides no reason whatsoever to pass on Nano. Do it. Try it, anyway. How will you know if you don't try? And if there are philosophical or moral objections to the organization, simply decide to write 50k in 30 days. I've never thought November was a good choice because Thanksgiving blows a good-sized hole in the week. Also, in my family quite a few birthdays fall in November, which further nibbles at Time Available. Choose your own month. Heck, choose your own target!

NANO used to have competitions in April and July. The first drafts of a few of my books originated during those periods.

But NANO seems to be dead.

I agree with the dates. Nano should pick a month with 31 days :)

But, I wonder if Naru is aware that the official Nano dissolved after some scandal. Officially, the site and organization no longer functions. Now we just have to do it in spirit.

Anyway, Nano is not for me. I dont type that quick. But it is for others. While I am not a joiner, I dont care if others do. If MS wants to do something with it, that is okay with me.

Its a shame really. Its not easy to get noticed and gain a following, and then to lose it all over unfortunate management... I'd not be surprised if it could be resurrected but someone with the keys has to want to. (Go back to your roots and start over.)
