As I mentioned in an earlier thread, I had a brainwave. And because I clearly labled the title of this thread "Newsletter", I've already given it away. Damn. No dramatic build-up.

Well, I had this idea of a newsletter that could be delivered via email to all our members, not only to inform them of the latest happenings at Mythic Scribes, but to remind them they are also a member here and to keep in touch–I know a lot of people will post once and then forget they ever came here.

In the hypothetical newsletter, which I am going to currently dub "The Mythic Scribes Courier", we could have links to the most discussed threads of the month, or week, however long we distribute it. Articles on the "Home" board could be shown and the latest, most promising stories submitted to the "Showcase" forum listed. Would be a nice way to also praise members who finish their stories or get them published, etc.

Just a little idea, kind of helter-skelter at the moment, but I'm sure some refinement could see some promise in it. Or maybe I'm insane. Probably both.

Whether or not you're insane, we're thinking on the same brainwave here. ;)

I've been planning something very similar for when we're prepared for the big launch. I would like to discuss this with you further.

Glad there's someone out there as crazy as me! :D

Sure, Tony. Anything you want to discuss with me. Fire away. Anyway I can help build and establish our much beloved website, I'd be happy to do.

Will the newsletter be articles on the general site, or new content? To drive static traffic, you'll need to make sure to post on the site rather consistently, and I worry about too much writing. Perhaps the newsletter could update subscribers to the hot issues of the week or whatnot, so that you don't have to put "new" content, but you can pull people into parts of the site they may have not read yet?

    Just some thoughts, any ideas?

I love this idea. I can see this generating interest.

Yes, I think that's the way to go. Trying to generate new content constantly can become too heavy of a burden.

Here's what I'm thinking. The newsletter comes out once a week, and includes the new articles from the home page, and directs them to some "featured" discussion threads in the forums. It will also include other updates about the site and current happenings.

As I mentioned, I plan on having the home page updated with new articles more frequently in the future, perhaps 2-3 times a week.

Another thing that I want to focus on with the home page (and the newsletter) is promoting work by members of the site. As we grow and more of our members get published, I also want to use this site as a platform to help promote their work.

You hit the nail on the head there, Tony. Exactly what I was thinking. Would be a wonderful way to help keep everyone up to date and promote one another. I feel like we are the next generation of Tolkien and Lewis's writer's group, who met periodically at a pub to discuss and critique story ideas.

Any way I can help at all, just let me know.
