Just a thought. Would there be a way we could compile a list of reputable publishers be they small press or major markets? Perhaps list links to their websites and profile them in a way that could provide members with accurate information regarding their submissions process, whether or not they accept unsolicited manuscripts, wait times, what they're looking for, etc?

This wouldn't necessarily be like Writer's Market (which I highly recommend for anyone wanting to publish), but more of an informal evaluation so writers would know if the publisher would be a good fit for them or not. I've met lots of small press writers and I think having knowledge of these presses would help out members a lot. For those looking to submit to the "big guns" (Tor, Del Rey, Bantam Spectra, etc.) it would also be good to know what you're getting into before submitting.

Would posting said information with links be useful or would the publishers not like that? I remember reading info on a website once that showed turn-around times for submissions from certain publishers and how it could be helpful for writers in knowing the general status of their manuscripts they're sending out.

Would this be a good idea? Would it be feasible?

I actually just went through a website with old/broken links and a lot of places that are closed for submissions. I'm sort of just compiling my own personal list for now. May prove useful in the near future, I hope.

This is a good idea Phil, maybe agents also. Most of the other writing forums I belong too have something like this and its very useful to a lot of people. In some cases there have been publishers that have "sponsored" communities such as this so that may be possible too. Either way I like the way you think and If I can help I am all for it.

    What I would like to see . . .

Is a page for recommended Fantasy publishers, publications, agents, editors and cover artists that Mythic Scribes could sort of recommend, and in some cases build a relationship with. I think that would go a long towards making this site a "hub" for the fantasy writing community.

Very solid suggestion. I was actually in the process of making a post in regards to another suggestion pertaining to eBook formatting, like how to guides and tutorials. My friend spent hours of hours digging up and cross checking all kinds of information in that area, he couldn't find one central place that offered him all the answers he needed. Again, this is something this forum could offer and venture into and really expand its horizons.

There's tons of information out there, not all of it accurate, but some sort of guide would help me a lot. I spent hours last night going through a website that had listed small presses and about half of the links were broken and most of them were closed to submissions. I think knowing what markets are accessible is always helpful. The SFWA website has a lot of helpful info too regarding agents, paying markets, and other such things. That's where I found most of the good links.

Devor's suggestion is great as well. Building relationships with legitimate publishers can go a long way to help expanding the community and making it the go-to place for fantasy writers.

I think this would be great! Let people know who is doing what (Publishers), who is open, etc. I'm stalking Angry Robot Publishers right now (new pub) they supposedly will have a brief "open to non-agented writers" time this spring.

Any association with Angry Robot production studios? The one J.J. Abrahams owns ( I think)

LOL- actually gerald, I did the same thing when I first saw it! Might not have been the best name choice for a SF/F publisher if us geek folk are going to confuse it ;).

Bad Robot is the one by J J Abrams, Angry Robots is indeed a book publisher - I think generally dealing with spec fic.
