Okay, quick question. I am writing a world that is set in a time equivalent to the 1920s. Note, this is not earth, this is just about the technology period. An MC is a politician. He dressed in formal attire. I need formal shoes. I want him to be wearing wingtips. Because those shoes are classy! And I was curious if you would be pulled out of the story if you read a line reading along the following lines: "His wingtipped shoes clicking through the marble halls."

Nope. I'd suggest adding a brand or makers name, with the implication of prestige.

The only thing I can think of is if somebody who speaks/reads English-English [not American-English] might auto-correct the word to "Brogues" but would still be familiar with "Wingtips".
