Star Trek Ramblings

I've actually had game nights where we tried to play Fizzbin. Almost always end up playing Cards Against Humanity, though.
I've never played Cards Against Humanity. What's it like? I only know two card games--Go Fish, High Card Wins [not sure what the actual name is], and Solitaire. My favourite board games are Labyrinth, Tsuro, Senet, and Mancala.

Disney has become the kiss of death for franchises, hasn't it? I've heard rumors they're retconning everything between Endgame and Doomsday.
If they are I wouldn't mind terribly tbh, I didn't see many of those ones but the few I did see didn't feel the same as the Endgame Saga. One of the few that I liked was the fantastic four one. And even then there was a scene that really didn't need to belong in a F4 Movie lol

I have half a dozen of the ST:TNG CD audio stories. They are a mix of rewrites of TNG episodes and new stuff.
They last about 2 hours and are great for long journeys.
My favourite is the audio story based on the ST:TNG episode Relics [the one were Scotty is rescued after 75 years in a Transporter buffer].

Holy sh!t - how did I forget Relics? I have the Hallmark ornament of that one. "The bridge of the Enterprise. No bloody A, B, C, or D."

I have seen F4, although I hear Pedro Pascal is actually good as Reed Richards (I had huge reservations about the casting when I heard of it).

I am done with Disney. I hope they go under.
Harlan Ellison wrote a series of essays called "The Three Most Important Things In Life." You can find them online for free. You should read the final one, called "Money" where he talks about his one day employed at Disney. It's HYSTERICAL.

Tom Holland's Spiderman films are good, too.

Cards Against Humanity is a ton of fun, but it's better with more people. You can't have tender sensibilities or be thin-skinned when playing, though. It can get...crass. If you can find three to eight other players, Pegs and Jokers is a great board game.

If I was to watch Dr. Who, I would want to start from the beginning and its too much. I am not interested in their new stuff.

I managed to keep up with the Star Trek movies but lost touch with the TV/Streaming shows after Enterprise.
While I freely admit there was a lot wrong with ST:E, I did like the show once it go going in season 2.
But I hated how it ended. That felt like a kick in the teeth.

Voyager did it for me. Anything before that, though, and I'm good.

I never watched Enterprise. I did check out a couple episodes before all of Star Trek left Netflix, and I could tell right away that it didn't appeal to me at all. Cap. Archer won the award for 'least favourite captain' pretty much instantly. Part of the problem is, of course, prequel-itis. But I won't rant about Enterprise too much here, because I know it does have its fans, and I'm glad of that.
CupofJoe I frequently see the Enterprise finale at the very bottom of Star Trek finale rankings, and I still wonder why anyone in charge thought it was a good way to end the series.

Some of my favourite youtubers [such as Jessie Gender, and her second channel, Jessie Gender After Dark] cover Star Trek stuff, and I've been enjoying her reviews of Starfleet Academy. I think SAM would be my favourite, just from hearing about her personality and she seems neurodivergent-coded, but in a good way. Jay-den seems like a neat character, too. It's great that we finally get a Klingon main character who wants to be something other than a warrior.

The main reason I liked enterprise is it didn't reset at the end of every episode. If the ship got damaged in one show, it was still damaged in the next.

Much of star trek is looking at things with rose colored glasses. Easy solutions to wrap up the episode. I still liked it, but I wish it went deeper and was less about veiled social commentary.

I though all of Voyagers best episodes were erased by some time loop at the end that made it all not happen.

Nah, as far as I'm aware all the episodes of Voyager still happen. The time shenanigans just massively reduced how long it took them to get back home.

That said, most of my Star Trek knowledge is second hand. I've seen a fair bit of the Original Series and Deep Space Nine. I've been meaning to watch more of the rest, but who has the time these days? Oh, though I also played a bit of the MMO. Had to mess around with the controls for flying the ship, but it was fun once I got it set up as I wanted.

EDIT: Hopefully the Star Trek Magic the Gathering set is good when it comes out this year, though I'm not looking forward to all the inevitable complaining about it.
