- Thou shalt not use a book as a menial object, least of all as a coaster.
- Thou shalt not open a book nor turn its pages with unwashed hands (or comparable device).
- Thou shalt not overextend the spine of a book.
- Thou shalt not hastily nor forcefully place a book into a container, be this a bag or a bookshelf.
- Thou shalt not write nor draw in a borrowed book.
- Thou shalt not forget to return a borrowed book.
- Thou shalt not neglect to dust thine books.
- Thou shalt shelter thine books from humidity, direct sunlight and other agents of decay.
- Thou shalt not lend books to people unwilling or incapable of heeding these commandments.
