Inkling
In my Zelda story I have a different take on Dark Link.
Typically he's a mindless puppet/shadow version of Link.
Typically he's also just a very easy (or very hard) boss, or mid boss, depending on the game.
In my story he's literally Link's darker self, unwavering, and unfettered enough to do dark/evil things for the greater good. But Ultimately, he's a fragment of the Heroes' Spirit.
He'll swear up and down that he's loyal to old Dorf, but at the end of the day he hates being manipulated and wants to live out his own life, where he can truly be 'free' of anyone controlling him, including what little bit of light in his soul makes him decide to be a 'good guy' sometimes.
Dark Link's first appearance in this story is during a nightmare that Link has, he directly confronts his heroic self about human Link being the 'hero in this outfit' while at the same time giving him cryptic hints on how to dethrone Ganon. Who in this story has been ruling Hyrule (Breath of the Wild Hyrule specifically ) for thousands of years.
