League of Legends

Started playing a couple days ago, and I'm having a blast. The influence grind is a bit of a pain (~60 fights to afford one character?), but it's surprisingly well-balanced, so you don't need much influence to jump in and play. (I'm currently wreaking havoc with Kayle, one of the cheapest characters--I get almost no kills, but more assists than everyone else combined.)

I've had a bit of a problem finding reliable teammates (every 5-on-5 match I've played so far, at least one player on one team has abruptly disconnected), so if anyone wants to start a Mythic Scribes team, I'm all for it. I'm Feo Takahari there as well.

Leagues is fun, but I don't like the interface that much. I've been playing Smite for the last few weeks, though, and IMO it's a better game. Similar concept, but 3rd person adventure-style instead of the overhead view, and everything is a skill shot (not auto-lock). The controls feel very similar to WoW, which made it an easy fit for me.

All that said, I WOULD enjoy playing Leagues (or Smite lol) with Scribes peeps. I believe my name on both games is Lungaia if you want to add me.

I feel obligated to give a warning: This game destroy lives and friendships. Hah, be careful!

I almost played this, but after what I saw happening to my coworkers... no. They became so addicted that one always bought way too many things with his salary while it was all the others talked about, but not talk–fight. I don't think they talk with each other today. I don't want to play a game where people will be more mad than having fun.

If it was an isolated event... but it isn't. I've seen it happening to other people too. So... if you feel it's getting in over your head, run.

They now give 400 points of the real-money currency at 3rd level--and ONLY at 3rd level. After I realized everything I wanted cost 700, I deliberately wasted it buying a character I'd never use who cost 395. As I see it, if these people get my credit card information, I lose.

Over the years, my boyfriend has spent several hundred on this game, buying skins and champions. But it's a F2P game, and they have to make their money somewhere. The "pay for perks" model of indie game design has been around a long time, and it's the most successful payment model IMO. I'll never complain about paying real money to support a game I enjoy. Honestly, if there were a way to translate that model to books, I'd do it in a heartbeat.

But, anyway. Here's the thing: MOBA (massive online battleground arena) games like Leagues, Smite, Heroes of Newerth, Dota, Warcraft III, etc. all tend to inspire a substantial amount of rage in players. Something about the combination of being paired with strangers + having to work together as a team + being rewarded for individual achievements = The worst-mannered gamers imaginable.

I play League, DOTA2 and Smite on a regular basis, so feel free to add me! My name is Varoun on League, The Hero Gaben Deserves on Steam/DOTA2, and Sigillimus on Smite. I'm fairly easy-going player, and I'm not too serious about the game - unless it's ranked, which is obviously where the stakes are higher.
