So uhh.Yeah... What the title says!

Just a bit of information about me... I'm more of an artist than a writer. I draw and paint digitally and traditionally!

I'm here in the forums for tons of reasons...
For 3-4 months, I've been trying very hard to find a community where I have like minded people I can check up on and all that. I've always been searching for an art forum/CG forum. That didn't really work out for me for a bunch of reasons cuz it wasn't what I was looking for.

Right now, I have some spare time... well... quite a bit of spare time. I have until the end of the year to build an Art Portfolio. Early this year, I compiled my art work just to see what I was missing. It turns out I was missing a lot of original art (as in, Original Character Concepts, etc.) I had a lot of Fan Art.

I'm kind of a Fan Boy when it comes to everything. If this character has a good story that I like, I get into this state of obsessing over it and just wanting to express my love for it... and uhhh... That was very difficult to pull of for Original Art because most of the Original Art that I did never had any written background.

So I don't know how and why, but I went to search for "World Building Forums" on Google and got here. I went over the forums and got pretty excited and thought "Maybe this might be a good place for me!"

Soo umm... yeah... I hope that explains enough!

Oh yeah... About my writing background...

I've been blogging for the past... 4... or 5 years. I wrote a lot of non-sense in the past (And sometimes, still writing them in the present.) I love to write. I like doing write ups on characters, games I play, and all that- but the problem is I'm not exactly the best reader. The only book I've finished in my life was the Little Prince and I didn't even understand it. I think (just Maybe!) I have some form of mild ADHD where I just can't sit down in one spot and stare at words for too long. I end up reading them word-for-word and not understand anything in the end. Because of this, my pool of words is really small and I don't know a lot of good words to describe things (which is why my story-writing is pretty crappy. I have a small word pool to pick from. )

Anyways... uhh.. yeah.. That's all!

Welcome to Mythic Scribes. We are a friendly community filled with different backgrounds and approaches to our art (visual or written- the goals are not that different).

I have moderate ADD so my experience is usually something closer to sitting for hours at a time staring at words but thinking about everything but the book in my hands. I read very often but (like you) I rarely finish books - it's something I'm working on. If I don't finish it in a week I probably won't finish it at all. I'll set it down and forget about it then start reading something else and put that down ...
I have read some estimates that claim 60-70% of people with ADD ALSO have Dyslexia. Supposedly up to 80% of Dyslexics have no formal diagnoses (I feel like many doctors believe that if it can't be cured with a prescription, why bother?). Unfortunately, if you do have Dyslexia, the best time to catch and correct reading deficiencies would have been during early developmental years (about ages 1- 10). (This doesn't mean it can't be done - it just would have been easier if you were a little kid).

If you're struggling with reading I would recommend beginning with Graphic Novels and Short Stories - they're less intimidating and usually easier / faster to read. You might also try reading slower or (my personal favorite) with a bookmark beneath the line of text that you are reading. I personally recommend James O'Barr's The Crow.


I'd love to see some of your art and browse through your blog. I never got the hang of painting so I usually stick with sketch pencils and charcoal sticks. I would post a link but I rarely finish my artwork Anyway ...

I can't actually wait to get my 5 posts up so I can go look at the projects of other people in the forum. I wanna know how actual writers start stuff and what type of stuff they ask/post and all that. I've been browsing the Writing Questions section and started asking questions about stuff in my world.

If you're struggling with reading I would recommend beginning with Graphic Novels and Short Stories - they're less intimidating and usually easier / faster to read. You might also try reading slower or (my personal favorite) with a bookmark beneath the line of text that you are reading. I personally recommend James O'Barr's The Crow.

I should try (TRY) to start reading shorter stories then.
There have been times where I actually try to read story books (I've tried to read Warcraft books) but I just can't seem to enjoy them like everyone else.

I can seem to read textbooks and articles on wikis/blogs fine since they're pretty much straight to the point. But when it comes to descriptive/creative type of writing, I tend to struggle and get frustrated. :-l

I just know that so many books in the world are good and everything- like... they all have super awesome stories, lore, characters, plots and all that and I envy people who picked them up and was able to experience them.

Can I recommend audio books? My eyes tire from reading and I often don't have time to sit and read while accomplishing nothing else so I listen to 99% of my books. With a good narrator, I think the book can go from good to great so it might be worth a try!
