Hi!

Hi, I would like to introduce myself. My name is Oz, I am a teenager and I am writing a fantasy book. My hobbies include: playing and creating video games(mostly rpg's), reading, writing, tennis, drawing, and a lot of other things. I have always been sort of a geek, but not the biggest geek ever. I love movies, games, and books that are full of blood, gore, and magic. So if any of you are writing one of those types of books, I would love to read it. As for my book, I only have a chapter done (though I am going to make it longer soon). But it is going to be like the kind of book i just said that I love reading.

ya, I had some things happen today that got me kind of down, but having a warm welcome always cheers me up. Hopefully I will get into the mood to write soon so i can finally completely finish my first chapter.

Sorry to hear you had a bad day. Happily, this is a very friendly forum so I'm sure you'll find plenty of fellow members who'll make you chuckle with their posts (albeit inadvertently in some cases).:D

Welcome Oz!

You mentioned that you like to create video games. How do you go about doing that? I'd love to hear more.

Well, since im just a teenager, i'm not very good at it. I am going to hopefully be a game programmer as a career after I'm done with high school and then college. I started with a book called Game Programming for Teens by Maneesh Sethi when I was around 10 (I have no clue how I remembered that title and the author's name). So that book started me off with a simple programming language called blitzbasic. But that was very simple video games and a very easy language. From there I went on to things like C# with XNA, C++, Java, and then later Adobe Flash. Last summer I went to Game Camp USA, but that camp turned out to be more for playing games then making them, and didn't teach me anything but a bit of Python. Recently I've bee woring with Unity 3d, which is a 3d game engine, rather than a programming language. It uses javascript and C#. I'm sorry if that confuses you with al the programming languages, but if it really does interest you, you should start by looking up some sort of Basic language such as maybe Visual Basic. And learning from tutorials. After getting to know how programming works and learning a few languages. It would be a good idea to go on to Unity3d.

That's fascinating stuff, Oz. I'm not interested in making games, but I am an avid gamer and am also intrigued by the creative process.

It's very impressive that you have learned so much so early in life. We'll look forward to hearing more from you in the future.
