How do you get reviews for your work?

Hello!

I recently finished a fantasy short story, and I would like to get some feedback on it, but the problem is I don't know how I should get them. I already posted my work on Reddit, a discord group, without any feedback. I am not a native English speaker and don't live in an English-speaking country. I don't have other options than to find help online. My friends and family don't have experience in creative writing, not just in English, but in any language. They helped me with feedback on whether the story was clear or exciting, but they might have missed errors a native speaker might notice.

Do you have any recommendations for getting feedback, or suggestions on a piece? I would like to develop my writing skills in English, but it might be hard to do without good critiques.

Post it in this site in the appropriate spot and I will read it. I'm no expert reviewer but especially since it's a "short story", I think I can manage that.

Discord is about as useless as they come. Reddit will review anything 120 characters or less unless you get in with a group of friends but you have to make the friends first. (Always not worth the trouble because they'll review it based on how well they like you, not objectively.)

I'll give you an objective review. @me in the comments if you want me to find it sooner, I'm new to this site.

Thank you! It has 2370 words. I will try to find out where I should post it, and I will tag you :)

Hi Gemma,

I said so in the other thread. There are sites that are more engineered for story reviews. Here on Scribes, there are a small number of us who will do that, but some site make it the currency of the site. One such site is Scribophile.

Another way to gain readers it to offer a type of trade relationship. You read theirs, and they read yours. Other wise, you just post it up and see what you can get.

The best way to get is to give. Go to review sites. Join the communities and don't ask anyone to review your work. Instead, offer to review theirs. Do this ... oh, maybe five times, maybe a dozen. Somewhere in there. Be active. Participate.

Then, once you've been in there a while (and you'll figure out which of the many review sites best suit you), then you can post one of your own stories. You will not only get better feedback, you'll understand what reviewing a work really entails.

Thank you

Thank you! I will take a look at Scribophile. :)

Thank you for the advice! I will try that! :)
