Have AI Read Your Writing to You!

TTS has been available for years. I'm not sure what AI could add. Are we just talking about more realistic voices?

I actually like the robotic voice. I'm not looking to have the story read. I'm looking for mistakes and places to correct. The stilted cadences of robot voice tend to highlight that.

In general, coming to the text from multiple angles is always useful. Print it. Use another font. Read aloud yourself. Have the computer read it. All good.

I will say, the idea of being able to us an AI to create an audio book does appeal to me, but I will not likely go this route. My suspicion is the learning curve to get it all right will not out weigh just getting someone professional to read it.

Reading it to help me find errors is not much different than TTS. I could see doing this, but so far I have not.

It makes it easier to get money from investors if you claim there's AI in there, and it gets you aboard the AI-hype train. AI at the moment, for some people, AI simply means there's a computer in there using an algorythm to make it work without a human guiding it along the different steps.

Fantastic suggestion--I've been looking for something like this. Has anyone used AI programs to evaluate grammar or usage more directly? I'd be interested in hearing experiences, if so.

There are loads of programmes that do this such as grammarly, but I think they have their limitations and do not take into account an individual style of writing. What did brilliant writers do before all of this tech? They either had the skills and confidence to write well or they worked closely with an editor as many writers do so today.

This has helped me SO much! Having your writings read back to you can really help the flow and wording. It will also catch those easy-to-overlook mistakes like using the wrong word in a sentence. I proof read the word 'feet' like 5 times when it should have been 'feel' lol. Spell check will never catch those. Some sentences may sound great when reading them in your head, but after hearing them out loud it puts a new perspective on them. I've gone back and moved plenty of words around because of that.

There are plenty of Text-to-Speech (TTS) programs and websites out there and many of them have 'realistic' voices. The one I've really enjoyed using (for free) is Lovo AI.
You can sign up with a gmail account. Some features are blocked behind a paywall.
This is a hack I've used for a while, for nonfiction (marketing work).
When a client is paying 100s of dollars for a single blog article, they don't want to see any typos.
Having a TTS that highlights each word on the screen as it reads aloud is the only way I know to catch 100% of types.

I tried this, LOVO, on the recommendation, and I must say, it was profound to hear my stuff read like that by someone other than me. I have to admit, it sounded pretty good.
