Word of mouth?

For someone without an advertising budget, you're pretty much limited to word of mouth. Convince individuals to read your book, and hope that, if they like it, they'll tell their friends and pass it along.

What was the last book you recommended to someone?

i still haven't read fforde's more famous series because i don't feel i'm well read enough to get all the references.

I don't know if it matters much; I read several of the Thursday Next novels and even though my background in classic literature is spotty at best, I still found them quite enjoyable. I still haven't read Jane Eyre but I had no trouble enjoying The Eyre Affair.

Stone Spring, Stephen Baxter. I got it out the library a few weeks back and have barely stopped telling those of my friends who read a lot to read it too. Bronze Summer is waiting for me at the library right now and I'm gonna grab it tomorrow.

For "word of mouth" advertising... I've just seen the power of Twitter.
The right tweet or retweet [or "RT" as I am learning its called] and 20,000 hits in a day to a website... it wasn't my site unfortunately...
