The last one I bought was The Stone Sky, by N.K. Jemisin. I really can't believe it took me so long to get around to reading this phenomenal trilogy. Now that I'm done with it, I'm on the hunt for something equally amazing.

Doing a metric f@ckton of homework right now, between getting deeper into the Books of Binding and the development work on our next series, so right now the top of the TBR looks a bit like a come-as-you-are. Reading two projects for two different guys, Everyday Aspergers by Samantha Craft, Worldbuilding for Fantasy Fans and Authors by M. D. Presley, Emily Post's Etiquette with Illustrations Complete and Unabridged, Tokyo Vice by Jake Adelstein, The Lord of the Rings Illustrated because it was $1.99 on Kindle and I'm just that sexy, and the 10th of the Writers Helping Writers Series.

And that was last week. Sales and planning ahead are your friends.
Damn, that’s a stacked TBR! You’re diving into everything from worldbuilding guides to etiquette and gritty memoirs, talk about range. And snagging The Lord of the Rings Illustrated for $1.99? That’s next-level savvy. Sounds like you’re balancing research, creativity, and pure enjoyment like a pro. Keep crushing it!

Thank you so much! You just described an average day here at Casa de Lowan, and we approve. Also, e-books. E-books are wonderful because you can both find them searchable and cheaper, and on a writer's money that's crucial.

As is chocolate. And snacks. It's process. It's the part that I'm taking a part in right now. One of these days, we're going to dedicate a book to Hershey's and Frito Lay. :D

Also, just because I assign homework to pretty much everyone, here's yours. This is a great, basic international guide. I have it in print and on Kindle, and it looks like it may be going out of print? It's searchable in Kindle, which just makes my little academic heart pitter pat.

I've been slack in keeping up with the urban fantasies by Charles de Lint, especially his world of the town of Newford in Canada. So I picked up "The Onion Girl", "Spirits In The Wires", "Widdershins", and "Tapping The Dream Tree". I also got a chapbook, "The Lazarus Cabal" by Sean Lee Levin, and while I was in Tucson, I bought the "Sir Hereward and Mister Fitz: Stories of the Witch Knight and the Puppet Sorcerer" collection by Garth Nix. It sounds rather like Fafhrd and the Grey Mouser, but the idea of a wizard who is a ventriloquist dummy amuses me.

Wow, you’ve got quite the urban fantasy haul, Charles de Lint’s Newford stories are such a vibe magical and grounded at the same time. And Garth Nix’s ventriloquist dummy wizard? That’s such a quirky, fun concept! Sounds like you’re diving into some seriously imaginative worlds. Enjoy the magic.

Never even heard of water for elephants, but I see it already has a movie and a musical? Like where have I been?

I felt the same when a friend recommended it. I’m planning to read the book before watching the movie

EDITED: A change of plans. I will tell you about it when I get the books.

Malice, Valour, Ruin and Wrath by John Gwynne. His Faithful and the Fallen series was on sale last week at my local bookstore so I snagged them. Good so far!

Against my better judgement I decided to use a sale to get two books I've been eyeing for a while for about a 50% discount. They are "Union eller undergång" which translates to "Union or destruction" and they are about Scandinavism during the 19th century. This is outside of my budget and buying plan but I decided to go for it since even together and with shipping they cost me less than a single volume would do at full price.

Death of the Author by Nnedi Okorafor (great read so far), a now incomplete (thanks Jeff) and on sale omnibus of the first three Area X novels, The Terraformers by Annalee Newitz, and We are Satelites by Sarah Pinsker

I recently watched the movie with Brendan Frasier called The Whale. No spoilers but it references Moby Dick a bit. I enjoyed the movie so much I decided to read Moby Dick. Surprised I hadn't yet after forty years of reading. I am absolutely in love with Moby Dick. Slow parts here and there but I love the writing style so much.
