Hi fellow scribes,
My name is Ela, and I’m new to this wonderful community. I just wanted to say a quick “Hi” and properly introduce myself.
Over the past five years, I’ve published several cookbooks and coffee table books in Germany, but now I’m finally taking the leap and working on my true passion project:
I’m working on my first fantasy novel… or perhaps my second. I wrote one before, but I never shared it with anyone; it was more of a quiet experiment, a way to discover my own voice.
I’m autistic and live with focal epilepsy. While it can be challenging at times, it has also been a deep source of creativity for me. In many ways, I feel it’s a gift when it comes to writing fantasy. My strengths lie in worldbuilding, character development, and storytelling, but my plots often get a little too complex. Everything makes perfect sense in my head because I know all the details, but I sometimes forget to weave them clearly into the story itself. Can anyone relate?
What I write:
A dark fantasy about obedience, light, and the dangerous price of feeling in a world that forbids it.
I’m four months in and still deep in worldbuilding and character development. I’ve been writing a few test passages to explore the voice and tone of my protagonists, since I’m working with multiple POVs.
Stories that continue to shape my imagination: 1Q84 by Haruki Murakami, Harry Potter (a lasting imprint of my ’90s childhood), Dune, The Handmaid’s Tale, Severance, the Silo series, Alchemised, and One Day. Not all Fantasy books, but each in its own way teaching me something about worlds, hearts, and the spaces between.
I’d be very grateful for any tips and looking forward to exchange, learn and finding my voice.
