Looking for Accountability Partner(s)

Hi everyone,

I've already written and published one book, and now, I'm in the initial drafting phase for the second book in that series.

While I'll definitely be looking for drafting partners later in the process, I'm really just trying to produce right now.

Would anybody be interested in logging daily or twice-weekly progress with me?

I find it helps me to plug my numbers into an app called TrackerBear, but also to celebrate ongoing progress with my fellow writers.

Let me know if you're game :)

Hi Gran,

I have my own thread in Writers Work, where i post updates on my progress, including words written. Several others do the same. I use mine not just to update how many words I have gotten on page, but also my experiences with the publishing industry as a whole. So does ThinkerX , and some others. My thought was that it would one day also be useful to others, but I suspect most people are not interested in reading it from post 1 to current, so...mileage may be limited.

You are welcome to do the same. I need to update mine, as I did not recently. I am on Book 5, and about 10K words in. I am shooting for 200K, so 5% done.

Thanks, pmmg!

I will do that, but I think I'm looking for something more like a partner or small circle of partners for a daily accountability check-in sort of thing.

Maybe it's different in these forums, but in the past, posting to a writer's journal has felt more impersonal--kind of like shouting into a void.

Congrats on all of those books. That's very inspiring to hear. Can you PM me a title, so I can check out your work?

Thanks for the reply :)

Hi Gran,

I feel I am too slow to try and keep a pace with someone. So, I would suck at some type of app for it. But, I do make a lot of noise while I am active cause I like others to see that dedication to the project pays off.

If you want to find my work, you can find it here on Amazon

The Eye of Ebon

You can also look at my website, or in the link in my siggy below.

Awesome! I'll check it out. And I get it about the pace. I'm just the kind of person who works better if there's a little challenge to it.

I find either a writer Discord server or Youtube / Twitch live streams from authors work best for this sort of thing. I usually join a Youtube writing sprint. It's a nice way of having to be accountable and having a chat with other authors.

I get the “shouting into the void” feeling.

I think accountability only really works when there’s another actual person on the other side who cares enough to ask “so, did you do it?” 😭 A progress log is useful, but it doesn’t create the same feeling at all.

Even having one or two people you check in with regularly can make a huge difference, especially with worldbuilding where it’s so easy to spend weeks thinking about things without ever feeling like you’ve produced anything concrete.

I’d definitely be interested in something like this. I’m much more consistent when I know someone else is going to see what I actually made rather than just what I planned to make.

Hi, Lily! Thanks for the response. Yeah, I think what you're saying is what I mean. I'm happy to be an accountability partner with you, and anyone else who cares to join. It doesn't even have to be a competition, but checking in with other people seems to help me most. I'm actually writing as we speak. I sent an eighth draft of my first chapter to my long term critique partner, and I'm trying to work on the overall outline of the story for a few hours. Maybe we can PM back and forth about how progress is going? What are you working on?

I've been part of Discord channels before, as well. If I can find some accountability partners it would make sense. Big channels can be hit or miss for me sometimes because with too many people, it's just a impersonal as shouting about my progress in a room by myself. That said, I joined a couple Shut Up and Write virtual meetups, and that's been a smaller more personal support for me, as well.

I was trying to show Lily, I cared. Most of us are actual people on the other side of the screen.
Hi Pmmg,

I wasn't trying to suggest you didn't care, so I'm sorry if I came off cold or judgmental with my question. That wasn't my intention.

Based on your message, I didn't know which of us you were talking to or what you were specifically referencing.

I might not have read your message right, as I'm not usually on forums like this.

This could be interesting, I could not promise anything, but I could see this being fun to do.
Absolutely no pressure. The idea is just check in every couple days or so. I like to set a weekly goal on Sunday and chat about how it's going throughout the week. The idea is to just put that slightly self-nagging voice in your head that creates a sense of what you're trying to achieve :)
