Character Descriptions

This is something of another hang-up I've run into recently. I'm looking for tips, tricks, and ideas on ways to describe characters physically without stopping the story for a paragraph long description. However, being a new step I'm taking, there's a bit of a struggle going on. I'm looking for a good way to describe someone without it being intrusive to the story or having to stop the plot just to get an idea of what someone looks like. I'd like to be able to have this flow smoothly and have the description kinda play out as the story moves along.
