I'm of the school that says that science fiction is most certainly a subset of fantasy.

We are already at a point where fuzziness might limit the distinction.
Dark matter and dark energy? Quantum entanglement? (Einstein hated the notion of "spooky action at a distance" but I think gave in and accepted its existence?) Heck, some physics theorists have lately suggested that what we think of as reality may merely be a holographic projection. And Hawking and others now speak of "information" as if it's a feature of the universe like particles and energy–re: black holes. At the quantum level, particles seem to randomly pop in and out of existence. Etc.
