Archmage
I made a similar thread about Pokemon, now it's time for Zelda.

ArchmageThey are reincarnations but they aren't, G Dorf too.I know that Link and Zelda are reincarnations. Don't know if that was intentional or just a way to explain and enable the different games. A way to tie them together but still give the developers freedom to explore different dynamics and settings.

ArchmageBOTW and TOTK are great games, but they're also pretty lengthily if you aim to do 'everything' everything. Even a casual playthrough will run you about 100 ish hours if you don't look anything up.I'm in a somewhat unusual position of knowing a lot about the series while only having played up to the water temple in Twilight Princess, up to the boss of the air temple in Minish Cap, and roughly an hour of WInd Waker. I am aiming to play Breath of the Wild and Tears of the Kingdom at some point.

ArchmageNot every fantasy story has the title character as the protagonist. The main thing I know about Zelda is that when I was playing the Gameboy Zelda game, I was wondering the whole time why the game was called Zelda while the main character is called Link. Still haven't figured it out...
Now that I think about it. The Zelda 'cycle' reminds me of wheel of time! They are reincarnations but they aren't, G Dorf too.
It's more that their souls are reincarnations rather than who they are (Which is why the links and Zeldas in different games have different personalities and appearances.) That's why their personalities are somewhat inconsistent between games. (Though regardless of the game link is shown to be a bit of a gremlin, and some Zelda's take their role as 'spirit of Hylia' a little more seriously than others.)
I don't work at Nintendo so I can't confirm if the reincarnations thing was just an excuse to reuse the same characters again.
But lore wise, ye, it's a 'cycle' that Hyrule has to go through because of Demise (OG Ganon who's game takes place even before the NES game)'s curse.
Also it's a common joke that Zelda is the character you play as (People sometimes called Link 'Zelda' for some reason ages ago, my parents still think Zelda is the character you play as lol)
ArchmageThe Triforce is the manifestation of whatever sacred power was left behind when they left the physical realm. They each embody different elements of the heart (Power Wisdom and Courage) and when someone who's heart isn't in balance touches the triforce (It's usually the three triangles in one shape) the artifacts split apart, leaving the one who's imbalanced with the force they rely on most. Which most of the time is Power (for the baddie) when Courage goes to Link and Wisdom goes to Zelda. Generally when all three pieces come together the person who touches it gets their wish granted. If it's a pure person (like link or zelda) then good stuff happens, obviously when someone wicked (like Ganon) then bad stuff happens. Now that I think about it. The Zelda 'cycle' reminds me of wheel of time!
Yeah, I had a "aha" moment as a child when I found out that Link is not Zelda.
Isn't the triforce crystalized goddesses?
