My answer so far has been that I can't. None of my cross genre novels seem to do anywhere near as well as either my traditional fantasy or sci fi. But interesting read.

Then no worries. It may simply not be your thing. We write dark urban fantasy romance, among other things. Write to your strengths, and don't worry about what other people are doing.
