I can't seem to upload media anymore...

Every time I try to upload, the system just doesn't take it. I've done things on my end, like making sure files are the correct type and within parameters, etc. and there seems to be no solving it. Is there something I'm just missing?

Where are you trying to upload? To a forum thread (which one)? To the portfolio? Elsewhere? Also, how big is the file? I am pretty sure there are some limitations there.

I was able to upload to the Fantasy Art portion. I chose Upload Media, not Embed. I did try to upload one file that I thought should go but the process failed with an error. But I neglected to note the parameters of that file, which was dumb of me. But I can at least verify the process works.

So, where are you trying to upload, what steps do you follow, what file type and dimensions, and what error message do you receive?

I've tried a few different places in the gallery. This last attempt was for a map jpeg, and it keeps saying, 'oops, we ran into some problems.' After I sized it down to fit, too.

I had no issues, just uploaded media, picked a file, and it took it. Same as always.

I just did:

-->Gallery..
-->Add Media..
-->Miscellaneous.. (for the category)
-->Upload File..

Picked the JPG from my PC and Save.

That process does not work for you?

I'd have to see it to help further, I think. My Pdf is not small.

But basically, what I see is a file that loads, then gets crossed out, then I click 'save' and get an error message.

AH...I see the problem. It just doesn't like you.

My guess is this is more likely on your end. I would do the typical clearing the cache trick and resetting things to see what happens.

2. Clear Your Cache and Cookies
Corrupted temporary data can freeze or disrupt upload scripts. [1, 2, 3]
    • Press Ctrl + Shift + Delete in Chrome.
    • Set the Time range to All time.
    • Check the boxes for Cookies and other site data and Cached images and files.
    • Click Clear data. [1, 2]

4. Reset Chrome to Default
If other steps fail, restoring Chrome to its original defaults can fix deeper settings conflicts. [1, 2]
    • Go to the Chrome Menu (three dots) > Settings.
    • Click on Reset settings in the left-hand menu.

I haven't been able to upload for months. I'll try to wipe cache and cookies and see if that helps. Fingers crossed for an easy solution.

In other news, Chrome can eat my shorts. Google's stolen enough of my information.

Here's an idea. Grab the image pmmg posted above. I'll assume you know how to do that, but if you don't, just ask.

Once you have it saved locally, then try to upload it. Since we know the file size, dimensions, and extension are all correct, and that the file itself is not corrupted, if it returns an error, then the issue has to be at your end and we can dig further.
