We were going to go there for our holidays - unfortunately nobody knew the way and by the time we'd worked out how to pronounce it to get directions it was time to go home

No need. Seen it before. Besides, I wasn't making fun of the elf. Welsh spelling is always a running gag, far as I'm concerned–a practical joke perpetrated on the English, which they never quite realized.

Though to be strictly accurate, all Welsh names are not pronounced "Smith." They're all pronounced "Jones." ;)
