Need advice with gemstones

I find gemstones fascinating mainly because I never really understood the reason such value is put on them.

It's marketing, as it is with pretty much anything that isn't directly related to primary human needs. We've decided that they're worth X, and that they are valuable, so we treat them as such. It's also culturally determined. Some countries prefer articial diamonds over mined ones because they tend to be bigger, while others consider the "it's real" factor of mined ones higher.

Yeah...value always contains a function of just what everyone collectively thinks its worth. Pretty stones would seem a natural for people to like and want.

Less, is artwork, cause some of the high prices has more to do with money laundering, than really like that Picaso that much.
