Paladinia

Paladinia is a world, vast and unformed. Mountain ranges sprawl, and forests spread, deep and endless, as do oceans. However, Paladinia is mostly unoccupied. It's people are scattered and unruly. They are in need of guidance from an all-powerful hand. You. You must help in the formation of Paladinia. In the construction of its cities, in the building of it's empires, in the fabrication of its land. You, alongside the countless others like you are needed by the Paladinians.

So that's that. I thought of this cool idea. Paladinia. The basics behind it is, Paladinia is an empty world. It's got oceans, rivers and lakes. It's got mountains and caves, it's got great plains of ice and snow. It's got forests and it's got jungles. Nothing more. The rest is up to you. You may post things here, about the world itself. You can create vast cities, or miniscule settlements. You may create brave and powerful heroes, or you can create terrible villains. The basics of it are: Paladinia is a medieval-fantasy world, where you are the creators. You can create whatever you want. My goal, is to get people to work together to create a vivid fantasy world. The prospect seems a bit sad, I know, but I don't care. If you don't like it, then I'd appreciate it if you did something else, instead of mocking or degrading this.

The Basics in a Nutshell.

1) This is a medieval-fantasy world, like that of the Elder Scrolls, or the Lord of the Rings. Try and keep your creations within those restraints.

2) You are an all-powerful creator. If you want to build a city, then build a city. Describe it as well as you can, and maybe someone else will build on it, and go into better detail.

3) Think as big as you see fit. If you want to create a sword, then create a sword. If you want to create a continent, then create a continent. I'm not expecting everyone to create something big and world changing. I'm expecting people to do what they want to do.

4) Enjoy yourself!

5) Remember that once you've created something, people are free to change it. If you've posted about a city, and someone has a cool idea about that city, then they are free to change it as they see fit. Just be sure to link the original post if you do change the creation of someone else.

Some basic rules.

1) Please don't post spam or ignorant stuff.

2) Don't go overboard. It's all well and good to create a sprawling city, but don't go and create a city that covers every inch of the world. That's just stupid. Also, don't create an all-powerful dark lord with an army of demons that can destroy continents with their toenail clippings. And if you do: then please make some way of stopping them.

3) Please, be as detailed as possible in your descriptions. If you want a city, and you just say: it's a big city in the middle of a valley, it's not going to add much to the world. However, if that's all you can do, then feel free. Someone else might add to it.

The village of Riverhelm lay in the centre of a valley. A river divided the settlement in two. A small bridge connected the two sides. The buildings were made from white stone, and their tall arced windows framed with ebon wood. It's people, the first of the High-Elf settlers. Like most settlers, they fished in their river and they hunted and gathered materials from their forest. Their people bore the angular features and height of an elf. Their swords and tools were crafted from the finest materials. The leader was Lord Arrin of the Feather. His coat of arms bore the likeness of a white dragon, on a plain blue background.

Now that Riverhelm has entered the World, you are free to do what you will with it. You may destroy it, you may change it, or you may expand it.

The city of Thunder Falls is a city of fifty thousand souls, most of the races intermingling in the almost sullen grey-green stone that comprises most of the building. The city straddles a mighty river as it plunges over a mile high precipice, with stone levees running along the banks to protect the residents against the spring thaw. Highly decorated arching bridges give passage east/west across the river, which breaks into several man-made tributaries that provide fresh water for the entire city.

The city was founded nearly 2000 years in the past and has been razed twice in that history; the last time barely 250 years ago. While still suitable for habitation after the seige ended, the city planners decided instead to reinforce what remained and build a new, more beautiful city on top of the old, making a series of sewers and catacombs beneath the city; mostly inhabited by the basest members of the population, homeless, menial laborers and base soldiers intermingled with low-end shops, plazas for public gatherings and tanks of water for those that dwell there.

The city is protected by a force of men five thousand strong with ballista and trebuchet emplacements placed in strategic areas around the city. The principal force is the Knights of the Jade Falcon, who are the most numerous of the units at 500, and are heavily armed and armored men on horseback with a lifetime of training.

At the base of the massive cliff that houses the city is a large heavily armed and defended port for trade and to house the armada of the city, some 30 massive galleons fully crewed by 100 men each. The port was originally accessible only via the "long stair" that was long ago carved through the solid stone by the dwarven masons that still look after the city structure, but more recently the guild of engineers constructed a series of lifts along the rockface to more easily move materials and personnel around.

Sapta-Pralata is a subterranean kingdom inhabited by approximately 2/3 million people. No one, not even the inhabitant of the kingdom, knew exactly when their home was founded for a lot of their history was lost during an ancient war. However, scholars theorized that the people of Sapta-Pralata are descendants of refugees from the ancient Trimusti Alliance that somehow find their way into the vast tunnel network and adapt themselves to live in it. The kingdom is connected a vast network of cave that allowed its inhabitants to travel without detection from surface dwellers but the entrances normally hidden from sight. To date, even the most learned of surface dwellers only knows that one of the entrance is located in the ancient forest of Kalpatru.

Once one enters through one of the caves, they are bound to be lost in the maze or fall prey to the crowned, poison-spewing, snake-like Nagas that live in the tunnels. The only way to survive is to be guided by the the inhabitant of Sapta-Pralata. As one goes through the cave, one will witness many amazing sight such as caverns of crystals, vast lakes populated by pale blind creatures, forests of giant glowing mushrooms, glowing cave with a thick carpet of black moss that create 'grassy' plains. They could also come across villages and towns peppered along the cavern's networks.

If one managed through navigate the caverns, they will arrive in the city of Nagajaya. The entrance of Nagajaya is flanked by the enormous statue of Baruna--a Water God-Lobster--and Antaboga--the Earth God-Serpent--carved out of clear quartz and black marble respectively. The city have ten floors that goes downward. The first 2 are the military area, the next 5 are the residential area, then the next 2 are reserved only for loyalty. At the 10th level, there is a stairs that descend even further down. However, nobody knew how long the stair was and what's at the end because nobody could bear the heat and suffocating airlessness.

People of Sapta-Pralata in general are very pale with eyes that is sensitive to bright light. They are also very lanky and almost snakelike in term of body structure. The Naga's lifestyle had taught them how to to find water and navigate the tunnels, so they copy a lot of aspects from the said creature. They are also a culture with heavy focus on symbolism, prayers, and rituals. The Sapta-Pralatan food consist mainly of the black moss, mushrooms, insects, meat taken from creatures in the lake, and also the discarded skin/prey and/or unfertilized Naga's egg. They also come up to the surface every now and then to hunt and gather vegetables. They worship Antaboga (who, according to their myth, create the tunnels and is the progenitor of all Nagas) and Baruna (bringer of water and sculptor of caves).

The kingdom is governed by a prince, since the people relegated the role of king to Antaboga. The prince is helped by a court that decided on most administrative matter such as drafting laws and decide taxes (the prince still have the final say, though).

While the network of cave (which they bolsters with diabolical traps) is Sapta-Pratalata main defense against attackers, their army is no pushover. They have tamed the Nagas, which they ride to war while wearing masks (made out of packed herbal moss and carved bones) and 'goggles' (made out of carved quartz/glass, bones, and leather), and suit (thick leather with layer of chain and platemail) designed to keep them safe from the poisonous gas that the Naga breathe. A squad of Naga-riders (typically 7-10 people) can flood an entire section of the cave with the deadly gas and push the invaders to tunnels filled with traps or nests of wild Nagas. If this doesn't work, they can either flee into the depth of the caves to outflank the enemy or uses the Naga's size and strength to overwhelm the opponent. The army as a whole maintain a strict standard of physical fitness and skill.

There is a cave at the base of one of the larger eastern mountains. There are no markings on its entrance and the interior is unadorned; carved only by water's slow drip. Two hundred yards deep into the cave there is an ancient stone alter, about waist height. Placed neatly atop is an emerald, fist sized gem cut to the shape of a tear.

Curious that such a valuable piece remains free for the taking. None of the locals show any interest despite living in destitute lodgings.

A headstrong adventurer would not think twice and even those with more wits only hesitate a moment.

And yet still, it remains. How curious.

Castle Sky

Castle sky is a powerful fortress-state built on a floating mountain range. It was built by an unknown culture and was found abandoned by travelers, they moved in to the fortress and slowly restored it and expanded it, with each day that passed, more and more people inhabited it. Within a couple of centuries, Castle Sky was the most powerful fortress of the region, resisting countless raids without a scratch.

In the outskirts of Castle Sky, you can encounter a vast number of smaller fortifications, many towers and a few forts will guide your way to the beautiful fortress. As you approach the castle, you will see a gatehouse which protects a large drawbridge leading to the main gatehouse, beyond it you will encounter the gardens of the fortress, to the left there is a Fortified tower and to the right is the entrance to the citadel of the castle, the citadel is home to the richest merchants of the region who help finance the always ongoing expansion of the fortress. Overlooking the citadel, on a floating island, is the Keep of the castle with only one entrance and heavily defended, it is the safest place in the already safe castle.

Tales speak of a great treasure hidden in the ground below the floating islands of Castle sky, but none delve too deep into the ancient forests that lie there in fear of a painful death at the hands of the creatures that hide in the shadows of the castle.

Grar Harbor

Grar harbor is the main supplier of goods of Castle Sky, it is furiously defended from raiders and pirates by the armies of the Floating Fortress. Surrounded by cliffs, Grar harbor is a natural safe spot for any ship. Goods from Grar harbor are transported by tunnels a few miles inland until they are well within the protection of Castle Sky.
