I would read Machiavelli's The Prince, and possibly also Sun Tzu's The Art of War. Neither are terribly long, and are more of a primer on politics and war. Given both men were successful in eras where politics dominated their world, they have very useful insights.
 
If you wanna get a scope of what modern SFF court intrigue is up to I'd recommend reading A Memory Called Empire and The Goblin Emperor. Very different vibes but both really imaginative.
Also just take inspiration from actual history that interests you. Try to find some unique angle or thematic throughline. Have fun :)
