Steampunk Alien Conspiracy

It sounds like I'm trying to gain some clickbait with this headline (maybe I am [emoji57]) but I've recently been thinking of creating a light-hearted series of short stories revolving around a moustache-bearing, flintlock-wielding, and wine - sipping hero in a steampunk setting. The main antagonists being Reptillian-like entities that control the governments and influential individuals of said world.

I think the kind of conspiracy theories I'm trying to parody should be clear [emoji10]

Regardless, I was just wondering what you guys would think about it. I'm not too aware of ideas similar to this one, but if it's been done before I'd like to know it. I've had a friend tell me it's similar to Doctor Who, but quite frankly I don't know much about that series to confirm this.

When I read your title I read "Steam Monk" and thought, jumping they just created a whole new sub-genre!

I am not familiar with anything like what you describe, and if it matters, it sounds like something I would enjoy reading if it was done well.

Are you familiar with the "Pulp" genre? That might be what you're looking for.

Also, personally instead of monks in power armor, I'd rather see Kung fu monks in steam punk China. Maybe taking inspiration from the Opium Wars?

Yeah, I guess my idea would be the kind of thing that would show up in one of those magazines from the 50s. It's got the whole exaggerated concept and everything! All I'm missing now would be a certain loin-clothed barbarian.

Just one question. Do the aliens also have steampunk technology? Steam powered flying saucers? Because that would defy credibility and yet at the same time it would seem unfair to have them in antimatter powered spacecraft battling someone with a flintlock. Not sure how you handle the issue.

The aliens would technically have advanced technology, but what happened was that the last of their race crash landed on the planet, and they lost access to all their technology. Slowly but surely, they took power by infecting others with their "virus" which turns people into one of their race. By the point of the story, they've managed to control the bodies of high-ranking officials and philosophers, thus controlling both entertainment and the governments of the world.

Im not a DW expert but from what I know your stories sound different.

The aliens would technically have advanced technology, but what happened was that the last of their race crash landed on the planet, and they lost access to all their technology. Slowly but surely, they took power by infecting others with their "virus" which turns people into one of their race. By the point of the story, they've managed to control the bodies of high-ranking officials and philosophers, thus controlling both entertainment and the governments of the world.

I think Stargate use similar plot att least twice.
