The Mythic Best

ThinkerX

Myth Weaver
We have a lot of talented people here.

I have read quite a few stories in the 'Challenges' sub-forum and critiqued a fair number in 'Showcase' as well. On occasion I scroll through the back pages, reading past submissions. And...

...some of these stories really stand out. They are good. Yet they languish many pages back, unread by all but the most dedicated delvers. That doesn't seem right to me. These stories, these authors, deserve more.

Hence this thread. The idea is MS members will post links to past favorite tales here - not their own works - along with a few words as to why they think its good.

To start off:

Crispenycate: Conscript (Weekly Challenges)

http://mythicscribes.com/forums/weekly-challenges/12940-write-about-spear-carriers.html

This is a grunt level view of a nobleman's war. The MC is a conscript lacking in extraordinary abilities or background, tossed into a situation normally fatal to his sort: quite a change from the knights and weapon experts of much other fantasy.

Incanus: Visiting Time (Showcase)

http://mythicscribes.com/forums/showcase/12593-visiting-time-short-story.html

I like this tale because it spoke directly to my current situation: like the protagonist in this little piece, I have piles of prospective writing projects, and what seems like a declining amount of time to write them in. Author does a good job of setting the mood, as well.

Steerpike: Sheila and the Cat Brigade (Challenges - Chaotic Shiny Challenge)

http://mythicscribes.com/forums/challenges/11857-chaotic-shiny-challenge-entry-thread-2.html

Despite the bizarre prompts, this sadly incomplete tale reached right out and grabbed me. It helped that one of our MS members was the MC.
