Hi all!

Definitely Saturday, so here goes:

I spent the morning plotting, so there's no word count on that. And the evening writing landed me on 850 words (daily goal is 400 for the month).

Cheers!

Well...if one takes the whole week off work.... (and I do appreciate the cat butt...)

I am at 1600 words...total.

I hope its a keeper, I never really know. Its more the process of writing draft zero so I have something to work with.

There should be a word count on the plotting. Plotting takes up LOADS of words! And huge congrats on more than doubling your writing goal! 😁

Brilliant start! And yeah, definitely the same. For me, draft zero is where you figure out what doesn't work. 😝

My thought was I will just reply to this thread each Saturday with my current progress and any other chatter, but daily updates are totally fine of course as well!
Oh, well in that case...
Sprint 1: 30 minutes. 483 words
Sprint 2: 1 hour. 1083 words
Sprint 3: 1 hour. 1125 words
Sprint 4: 30 minutes. 458 words
Daily total: 3149 words
Grand total: 6916 words

And feel free to mock me as I figure out why you cannot put a Do Not Disturb sign on an inward opening door.

  1. Title - Cardinality
  2. Grimdark Fantasy
  3. Blurb - Cardinality explores the intricate layers of human consciousness through interconnected realms. The Echo houses suppressed traits, while The Maw is a chaotic plane of unchecked primordial beings born from suppressed emotions. The Threshold serves as a liminal space for confrontation and integration, leading to The Fold, a sanctuary for transformation. Finally, The Shell reflects earthly existence, revealing the impact of inner conflicts on society. This novel explores many dark aspects of one's soul: the fragmentation that happens, as well as the daunting reintegration of said fragments.
  4. Status - Outlined.
  5. Sharing - Cardinality is shared on my blog, and various other places.

I just made it to 7,506 words. I've also been shooting for 1,667 per day, so I'm quite happy with my progress.
You should be! You're well above target! Proud of you! 😁
Week 1 (Nov. 1st - 2nd, lol): 2877

Brilliant start! Keep up the good work! :giggle:
Slow couple of days
day 1 c 650 words
day 2 up to c 2600
today, just about to start
I wouldn't call that a slow couple of days at all. If you're going for the 50,000 goal then you're only 83 words behind target. You can make that up easy! Keep it up. You're doing great! 😁

10k here I come! ^_^

Been working on a really fun chapter today that introduces whats known as The Harvesters to the story. What are The Harvesters I presumptuously imagine you all asking. Well, my story is set in the midst of an industrial revolution. Massive breakthroughs in technology, science and medicine. One of these breakthroughs being the first successful organ transplants. And so, there are plenty of young, talented doctors who are learning as much as they possibly can about this incredible new surgery. And for that, you need lots and lots of dead folk with perfectly healthy organs to experiment on. Now, where are you going to find a fresh dead guy with perfectly healthy, perfectly preserved organs? ... Well, that's where The Harvesters come in.

Sounds exciting! I can imagine the hilarious and dire situations these Harvesters must find themselves in on a regular basis. 😆

Also, general question for the group. If I have previous writing (mostly passages concerning world lore) I'd like to 'import', but plan to revise thoroughly, would that be unfair or against the spirit of the event?

I say we don't discriminate based on people's process. Rewritten words are also words! ^.^ And the more the merrier.

I hit a major stumbling block today... While writing a scene I found out there's a serious piece of background missing that the story needs to be build on. So I spent all the writing time I had today building pieces of character history, and still have to think where to weave it in to plot & dialogue. My word count on the actual text remains zero. But there's still ~three waking hours in my day and it did bring lots of inspiration, so I'll see where I end up...

As far as I'm concerned, the spirit of the event is to challenge yourself, not for someone else to keep you to specific rules and guidelines. So challenge yourself however works best for you!

About 1100 today, so that should put me at 2700.

I"m gonna question though, is it really valuable to pile out the words like we are in a sprint for the month of November. There is an aspect to Nano that feel a bit like crash dieting to me. If I want to be a writer, I do it everyday, regardless. To ramp up and cram it all in at once is kind of not the same as building a good habit. Do you not feel some aspect to it that is less than helpful?
