Yesterday and today lots of family obligations. Will hopefully get some work done this evening or otherwise this weekend.:penguin:

@Avery Sorry, responding a bit late. Is it a Youtube-channel?

Ugh, real life... Though! ;)

I've become really curious about your project by now... I know you're in outlining phase, but would challenge you to fill in the list! Though (only if you feel like it ^.^)

Day 8: Congratulations to all of my Writing Buddies!

TLDW:
Daily Word Count:
4,319 words
Total Word Count: 16,959 words

So proud of myself today! I think that is probably the most words I have ever written in a day.

Pmmg, your congratulations is at 6:24

And also a massive congratulations to everybody else! If anyone would like to be part of the next Writing Buddies update video, just let me know. 😁

That is seriously impressive.

Oh wow, major congratulations! I would be happy to get a mention. I'm hoping to get to the halfway mark tonight! Fingers crossed.
I would be so happy to include you! You've been absolutely lovely! And I'd be happy to link your channel too since you've got some awesome writing related content in there. 😁
7200 words now ;)
Awesome stuff! Fight scenes in general I really struggle with. Its like... "And then the sword hit the other sword and the swords went clang. And then the bad guy nearly stabbed the good guy but the good guy moved out of the way just in time... And then they kept doing that for awhile."

I'm at 6400 words total. 4050 of those are in the actual text, 2350 are summary descriptions on what's happening out of sight but will become important later on, I'm counting those parts too ^.^
Absolutely! It's writing, right? (My boyfriend pointed out that I wrote in my nephew's birthday card and I should count that towards my word count too.) 😝

Yeah, its on youtube. The vlog links I post at the beginning of my updates should take you there. I'd be happy to include you in the next video on the 15th if you'd like! 😁

NaNoWriMo Vlog Day 8: Lets All Quit Our Jobs and Write All Day Instead!

TLDW:

My week off work is now finished, so I expect my word count to plummet dramatically.

Daily Word Count: 1,428

Total Word Count: 18,387

After careful consideration, I have decided to quit my job and write all day instead! I shall forgo trivial things like food and rent and just live off happy writing vibes instead! (... Should probably throw in here that this is sarcasm. Nobody do this. It is not a good idea.)

I'm updating my word count today instead of tomorrow because I will be out almost all day tomorrow and won't have any opportunity to check in or write.

I'm at 30,000 words! Or more exactly, 30,797. I can't even describe how happy I am. I've also gotten to learn a great deal about Roman concrete, because it plays a surprisingly important part in the story. So that's another plus πŸ˜‚

At this point, unless something catastrophic happens, I'm guessing I'll be at 50,000 words well before the end of the month, so my new goal is to try to finish a first draft of the entire novel by the end of the month. I'm guessing it will clock in at about 70,000 words or so, but we'll see. I'm very happy with the way my novel is going, and I've had some of the most fun of my entire life doing this, so thank you to everyone who is participating in this thread and adding your word counts. You all are the best!

Aw, thank you, I'd appreciate it!

Fight scenes are fun for me to write but I wouldn't say I'm super good at them. I do think the Ranger's Apprentice by John Flanagan has some really good fight scenes and I learned a lot primarily about writing battles and fight scenes from that book series. It's technically YA, but it's really good, and I highly recommend it if you want some light reading with great fight sequences.

I'm up to 11088 words as of now. Pleased with the progress. Though behind schedule, I did not expect to hit 50k in a month.

With reference to Dragon's post about crash dieting a few days back: I agree there is an element of that to this and so yes, we could all become flabby once the month is over. I suspect all the christmas holiday period socialising will impact productivity for me, perhaps others. Still, getting a few chapters drafted is worthwhile in itself. The challenge has helped me to procrastinate less, so from that perspective it is working for me.

Great to hear how everyone else is doing as well. Maybe we could take December to post some bits of November's output for critique, maybe 5,000 words each? Just a thought of how we might keep momentum and get round the possibility (certainty for me) that the push to get words down means (even) more reviewing and editing will be needed.

Question for everybody! In tomorrow's video, I'm doing an encouragement section where I go through all of my buddies who are keeping track of their word count this month and congratulate them all on their progress so far. Would any of you guys like to be in the video? 😁
I'm happy to be referenced, but please use my nom de plume - B J Brown, thanks.

Friends! So proud of all of you for all of your progress!

Unfortunately, having worked nearly seventy hours in the last six days, my own has not been substantial. Big time of year at work (I'm a grocer) getting ready for Thanksgiving, and our bi-yearly full store inventory happens to be tomorrow night. But I am determined to hit the ground running starting Monday and get back into the groove.

Since my last update, I've added another 872 words, bringing my total up to 2,982. Plenty of plotting going on up in the ol' noggin though, and I've been devouring audio books during my shifts for inspiration.

I am all for this!

My Saturday count at day 9:

7362 words. which amounts to 1 chapter completed, 1 chapter written for the major part, now just needs final touches. I also had the pieces of the upcoming plot finally click together and I'm going to outline that so I can get writing on the scenes soon :D My characters, meanwhile, are in deep existential trouble, so all's as it should be :<

Cheers!

That's incredible! You're doing amazing! :giggle:

I should definitely check that out before I attempt my next fight scene.

Nope! Nobody sees so much as a line of the abomination that is my first draft. I have never written anything so nonsensical in my life. Second draft bare minimum before I start sharing. 😝

Awesome! My next buddy update video will be on the 15th, so I'll be sure to include you in that! 😁

Awesome that you've been keeping up with the writing even though you've been so busy! And OMG, lucky! Wish I could listen to audiobooks while I work, that would make my job SO much happier! But I make up for it a little by listening to audiobooks on the way to and from work. Currently listening to Warbreaker by Brandon Sanderson and absolutely loving it.
Quitting the job always works out. Go you :)
Hurray! 🀣

That's a long chapter though! Great work!
My characters, meanwhile, are in deep existential trouble, so all's as it should be :<
Hurray! Those are the most fun parts!!! ... Not for the characters but the characters are our own personal prisoners that exist solely for us to torture for our amusement. 😝

Hi guys,

Great to see all the word counts and progress!

I've put in some work as well over the weekend: outline main character 4 is done as is MC 5. Moving on to complete the last two MCs, which will be a bit more work because less prep done.

After that blurb and title to follow hopefully.

My goal for November would be to have an overall book outline that I'd be comfortable enough with to start writing a few chapters of MC1. And then just see how it goes from there.

Will have some time again in December to continue working on the book ☺️

Challenge humbly accepted! I will probably not have a title yet, but will try and post the list next weekend.

Yeah, its on youtube. The vlog links I post at the beginning of my updates should take you there. I'd be happy to include you in the next video on the 15th if you'd like! 😁
Hi Avery, yes I would like that. Thank you & great channel btw.

Wow, this is great news! Finishing the first draft in one month would be an incredible achievement.

I think that's a lot of writing done given the circumstances. Another step forward.

NaNoWriMo Vlog Day 11: Who Should I Kill Today?

TLDW:

Daily Word Count:
2,486
Total Word Count: 23,723

Today I am playing the extremely fun and wholesome game of, "Which One of my Beloved Characters am I Going to Brutally and Mercilessly Kill Off?" Originally, I had a character in mind that I was planning on killing off at the end of book one, but the more I think about it, the more I think this character has a lot more story to tell and a lot of potential to grow and develop, so I don't want to kill them off just yet.

But, for plot reasons, and to establish a grimdark tone, I do want to kill off one of my main characters by the end of the novel... So that means carefully considering all of my characters and deciding which one to go Old Yeller on. It's really hard! I'm considering coming up with a brand new character just so that I have somebody to kill off. 😝
