What makes a Good description?

Well, I told you I’m not sure if I am well at describing. But what is a good describing? Do you have a good describing when you use the five senses? Or must be there more?

A good description is one that makes the reader imagine a thing or situation that is memorable and evokes the emotion you want to create by it. It doesn't have to look the way you are imagining it yourself, but it should create the emotion you think it should create.
A good description describes the most important elements of that thing. Some of these elements are obvious, while others depend on what you want to be recognizable later when that thing will show up again.

Consider the purpose of the description. Is the description to illustrate the effect on the characters or to set the tone and illicit a response in the reader. Consider what you want the focus of the person/place/thing being described. Too much description of the wrong aspects can take away from your real intent.
