What's your favorite 'dad' 'mom' 'tourist' clothing look?

I'm talking about things that we (And pop culture apparently) identify as 'yep x person is totally an x' usually a mom/dad/tourist because they're wearing it, not that they are said thing.

My favorite one is Socks while wearing sandals, not particularly because it looks 'bad' or because it marks that person as a tourist? It just amuses me cause the socks defeat the purpose of sandals to begin with.

Wearing your national flag as a part of your clothing when abroad.
Outside your native country [where it would be a tad redundant] wearing a national flag screams tourist to me.
And an insecure one at that.

Sports events are an exception of course.
I agree with this lol
Though another one that this made me think of?
The whole painting your body in team colors thing.
Like ok bro I know you love your team and all but don't you know actors in movies have died from that?

I dont know.

I would think the classic shorts and an Hawaiian shirt would convey it pretty well. My mom used to wear a large sun hat.

If I go around, I just dress the same as I always do. I have two looks. Sweats and t shirts for home, and work attire everywhere else.

I dont know how to tour :arghh:

The one variation I've come across is Canadian flags. They're still tourists. However, in my experience, someone wearing a Canadian flag (or have one stuck on a backpack or similar) has a higher than 50/50 chance of being an American.

As a sort of corollary, I know 2 UK/Irish nationals that have the Irish flag on their backpack even when they are travelling on their UK passports.
For me it states "Yes, I'm a tourist but don't hate me!"

I try to remain invisible while on holiday.
This goes down to the level of using local grocery and store bags when shopping.
I declare myself a tourist when ever I try to speak the local language.
I have been told that I give this policeman a run for his money in accent and pronunciation.

I try to remain invisible even while not on holiday lol Though that's because I have like zero 'social' batteries with new people in person.
I've been getting better as I got older and less paralyzed by choice but it's still pretty bad.

Would a Turtle Neck sweater while golfing count as something in the theme in this thread? I haven't seen it in the wild but I hear that's a thing.

Be assured that regardless of the flag on the bag, Americans and Canadians are usually readily separated, even before they speak. (DOI Brit living in Canada).

Americans are more likely to have hostile things happen to them, so using displaying a Canadian flag while touring is a way of signalling, not US for protection and less discrimination.

It is a thing.
