When to Capitalize...the Gods?

Demesnedenoir

Because god isn't a proper name in this case. Sol is a god, Januel is a god, Bob is a dude, but they all get caps for their names. If I used "god" to replace a proper name. If using god in direct address it could get cap'd just like King can be. The gods are real beings, and real power, butare they "real gods" depends on one's definition, LOL.
Do you do this because no one in your story thinks they are real gods? or because they are not real gods due to outside concerns. As in, they are not the capitalized as they are not the Christian/Jewish/Muslim god as Devor as noted?

There are plenty of gods in my world, well-established ones from various pantheons, but with the focus on one whom I describe as 'Twilight Zone's' Anthony Fremont as an Archon. But my main character has no time for any of them. He calls them semi-gods, not demi-gods, and the narrator of these stories, his Boswell, has been ordered to do the same. With no capitalization.

I think that is going to remain my route. It will just be a confusing mess otherwise.... Now if I can fix all the uses of Captain.
