The Dragon Chronicles pg. 5

I’ve combined a trolls DNA with a dragons DNA to make a dragon that doesn’t need a partner to produce offspring. If one of its scales falls off, it has a slight chance (5%, roll D10’s for roll) of becoming a baby. The scale itself will take the reason to it falling off the mother/father as that he/she is getting killed, so in a last attempt, the scale will deploy the sperm to fertilize the egg inside the scale to hopefully incubate a new dragon. If successful, it will take about 1 year to hatch and until then, it can only be broken by the baby inside. Nothing can penetrate the diamond like exterior, not even a diamond blade, magic or striking it with heavy object with a lot of force. Most people believe it to be just an odd occurrence, but magic users, and friends to dragons know that once they see something like this, that it is a very precious item. It needs to be kept safe and warm, so the baby inside isn’t tossed around. Once it hatches, whoever is the first person it sees will be like its mother (it knows you aren’t its mother) and will become your friend and stand alongside you in battle once it gets older. It sort of becomes like a familiar, but no sharing spells or anything familiars get with their masters. When you first come into contact with the scale, you have this uncanny ability to know that it needs to be kept safe and warm. You only get basic survival instincts at first. As it gets closer to hatching, you will know it will hatch soon. After hatching, you know when it’s hungry, cold, thirsty, playful, tired… As it grows older, you can catch glimpses of words and sentences, you can’t tell whether you’re still hearing things or that someone is in your mind trying to talk to you. As he grows and matures, you can understand what the words are saying a lot more clearly. Older still and you can actually begin to talk with one another. It tells you prior to its first battle that if you get severely injured, that all you need do is tell him and he will be there and he will give you a piece of his heart. A small sliver will heal you completely and make you the slightest bit stronger. (DM info, you’ll have a 10% chance to get dragon sight, talons, scales, spikes, tail, horns or even its breath weapon if you’re really lucky.) Like the dragon, it will take you time to use your new gift properly, but, unlike him, it will take you longer to master it and the power will go in and out if you have not mastered it yet. The dragon can give a piece of his heart a total of 50 times before he himself dies. If you are the only person to have gotten all the pieces of his heart, you yourself will turn into a half - dragon. You’ll grow wings, a tail, horns, spikes and change color…whatever the dragon looked like is how you will look. The color of the scale will give you a little insight into which color dragon he will be (red scale, red dragon/ gold scale, gold dragon…) They are only as big as a house cat when they hatch however, so much care is needed to tend to a dragon hatchling. Except most hatchlings will not have most of their spikes until they get older. They have everything their mothers had in way of powers, but they don’t know how to use them yet. They need you to watch over them so that they can learn all their skills and show them how to use them wisely. Just because you hatch a gold dragon doesn’t necessarily mean that it’ll be good. It depends on the person it learns from whether or not it will be good. So if you use your powers for all the wrong purposes, you could turn a gold hatchling into an evil one. Be very careful when doing this. They can also be taught to read and will learn while reading as well.
