The Ways of Witchmen

Preface: I think I will post my worldbuilding notes as portfolios from hereafter, and as what would be a book in a game format as I prefer to worldbuild from an in-world perspective rather than state facts, and this entry will certainly not be safe for work.

The Ways of Witchmen by Brother Valikhris

It has been for two millennia that the Mages Guild, our ally, has with integrity provided those possessing the will and/or talent the opportunity to study magic, proper magic, and it is not without reason. They know all too well the dangers magic can pose to the ill trained mind, and with our help, Enmaliel's faithful, their battlemages have confronted with boldness these grave threats, the most dangerous being hedge-mages, or witches and warlocks.

Many would have you believe there are those amongst them who wield the blood of Enmaliel himself with good will, or that they are at best clever folk in the farthest reaches of the civilized world, of no danger to us, but they are wrong, and they are foolish for one cannot wield the blood of the Great Lord outside his blessings with righteous intent for to do so demands an iniquitous spirit; it is simply an impossibility, and they are certainly not absent within our borders. I have seen them with my very eyes. Studied them, and prayed for them.

Every coven I encountered varies in customs and size, true, so much so they could be defined as ethnic groups, but I noticed a trend too eager to present itself to be dismissed: they are determined to defy the natural order of things, ranging from the easily corrected such as the sexes being confused as to what they are to something demanding the will of Enmaliel himself.

One of such customs was done in the form of burning of the flesh, a cremation though not akin to the practice of more civilized folk, and the mixing of the ashes with the very crops they eat and salves they use to mend wounds, saying it was honouring their dead. They may as well have been dappling in necromancy with such foolishness, and such blood curling chants.

Another was the mingling of animal and man as they dressed in revealing hides — the genitalia exposed for all — and decorated themselves with bones as the men took the women as hounds — with no regard for to whom their mate belonged — not bothering to remove their semen as each went to the next. Such debauchery is beneath even our brothels for even they possess a modicum of sanctity for the feminine form.

But more vile than that was a coven who were not satisfied with just taunting the clear divide Enmaliel set forth. No, they had to cross it. Not only did their priest and his priestess daughter wield the blasphemous magic of shape shifting, those heathens were audacious enough to take animals — horses in particular — as mates! They bore no clothing save the once precious skin they violated and fluids that stained their once beautiful pigment, and when they finally washed themselves of their filth, they returned to their village and embraced their young as if nothing wicked occurred!

Oh faithful of Enmaliel! Share these insights with those who doubt the threat of hedge-magery. Let not an ear be short of prudence and an eye wanting of vigilance.
