The World of Aurah

This is my first portfolio entry and is by way of introduction to the world I am attempting to create. There are parodies interwoven into the concept, so don't be surprised if you read something familiar.

In another part of the multiverse lies the planet Aurah. Here lies a world like ours and yet unlike. It too has clear blue oceans intersected by lands of green, brown and white. It also has one moon and a single small yellow sun.
Yet it is not Aurah's sun that has the most impact on its life. Less than 50 light years away from the Aurah system lies the star Theta Proxima, a large and highly active star that periodically sends bursts of radiation winging through space. When these bursts are particularly intense, they overwhelm Aurah's magnetosphere and life on the surface is changed dramatically.
Aurah's fossil record holds many examples of hybridisation between species. Among the finds are beetles with a spider's spinnerette, marine reptiles with gill supports and mammalian predators with bovine horns. All these are the result of the radiation bursts hybridising the DNA of creatures that associated closely, either as predator and prey, symbiosis or simply being in the same environment.
Thousands of years ago, humans roamed widely around Aurah. But then a radiation burst struck Aurah and hybridised them with animals they used as food or for clothing. As a result, Aurah is populated by intelligent, upright animals that act much as humans would. Humans themselves are now something of a myth.
Over many centuries, the so-called "anthros" grew to colonise much of Aurah, building immense cities and developing fantastic new technologies. Yet in recent times, further radiation bursts are creating a new race on Aurah. Anthros are being born or gifted with special powers that the average anthro does not possess. How they use these gifts is all a matter of the choices they make...
