Dragon Age: Inquisition

Finally bought the fancy schmancy deluxe addition of DA:I. It's certainly the best of the three and I'm enjoying myself thoroughly.

Any other fans of the series?

It's definitely a beautiful game. The dragon fights, when you get to them, are epic. Though I believe that out of all three, the cast of characters is the weakest. A few of their storylines aren't so bad, but others I didn't have the slightest desire to even care about.

DA:I is on my "to buy" list, but I have built up a very large stack of games in my library that I've hardly played and I'm also waiting for the price of DA:I to drop before I jump into it.

It was like $39.99 with all the DLC and extras. Quite a bit less if you just get the standard version.

It was $15 (standard version) on Origin the weekend after Thanksgiving, so I picked it up! I've yet to start it, because of the other games I got around the same time, but I'm looking forward to it. A lot of people seem to love it.

Right now I'm playing Ori and the Blind Forest... Man, I am terrible at platformers, but gorgeous art and fun exploration mechanics are apparently what it takes to get me to power through.

I have purchased Dragon Age Inquisition as a special present for my birthday, which is tomorrow. I'll probably play it for the first time at December seventeen or even later in the month, I am not sure yet... I am really curious about this game, everyone says it's great and I hope to enjoy it very much.

The only problem is that I'll be playing the PS3 version of the game, but apart of graphics that cannot be as good as they are in PC and the most recent consoles it's the same game anyway.

Please tell me more about the story and the setting of Dragon Age.

What is the first thing to do in the adventure? What type of character would be the best for a beginner that has never played any other Dragon Age game, to start with? Any tips and suggestions are welcome!

I'll be telling you everything about my adventures as the Inquisitor =)

Squeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee!

I love the entire series, even DA2. The storytelling, choices, and interesting companions are what is really important to me. They've also cleaned up combat mechanics in Inquisition, which makes some battles much less frustrating.

It is one of the few games that made me push back from my desk at one plot point and just stare at the screen in wide eyed gaping amazement/horror/wonderment.

Also, you get goats thrown at you.

I got it on sale for about $20.00, and am playing through right now. I'm going to have to break with everybody here and unfortunately state my opinion that Inquisition is, the weakest entry of the series.

First, purely from a technical standpoint, I have run into some serious bugs. I have had entire lines of dialogue become hopelessly mangled by some bizarre audio glitch that renders the speech entirely unintelligible when that glitch kicks in.

Second, when talking to characters about the past happenings, particularly what had happened to the Hero of Ferelden you played as in the first game, those characters gave entirely incorrect information as to that character, both gender and the fact that the character died at the climax in the first game (although I have played as both a male and female character, in all playthoughs they survive.) Probably trivial, I know, but seeing as how I am playing on the same system as my other game saves, it is distracting and definitely pulls me out of the game to hear the game-world history so thoroughly mangled (especially when relayed by a character who was there with the Hero of Ferelden.) Dragon Age II, for all the criticism it got (and some deservedly so) managed to get the established game-history correct if you had a completed gamesave.

As to the game itself, if really just feels like a large amount of random fetch-questing. "Find these supplies." "Mark these building sites." Stuff like that, unbefitting for someone who is supposedly referred to in-game with such reverence.

As to the characters, I am still in fairly early, but I just don't really care about them the way I did for the characters in the first two games (except Varric, he still rocks.) Maybe that will change as I advance through the story, but that's where I am right now.

The story revolves around these rifts in the sky that only your character seems to be able to seal with this mysterious power. Demons and other creatures are falling out of it and causing plenty of problems. You can be whatever you want really, the other members of your group will have a greater effect on your success.

Warrior Builds - Dragon Inquisition This site gives you different ideas for character builds, as well as weapons an armor.

Happy birthday!

It's amazing how Leliana seems to have completely forgotten any romantic involvement in DA:O. Maybe you have to import the previous saved games for her dialogue to change. I romanced her and at the end went off to adventure with her as far as the storyline went.

Maybe the previous history was retconned for some reason.
I love the gameplay in DA:II.

I haven't run into any bugs or glitches yet.

First off, happy birthday.

Secondly, spoilers are a terrible birthday present!

As for your inquisitor, it really doesn't matter what you roll as far as party role goes. I made mine a very crowd-control oriented tank with a shield and a mace. More of an off tank really, but I like to control the fights as much as possible to keep my real heavy hitters alive in the back line. And, well, because TEMPLAR.

Why I say it doesn't really matter that much is because every companion you come across ends up filling pretty much every role in the party you'll need, so your inquisitor is kind of a freebie pick. It just depends on the type of gameplay you want to have.

If I were to reroll a new character, I would definitely give a damage-dealing Mage a try. They seemed to have the most badass specialization trees out of all of the classes. Plus, making things go boom never gets old. :p

Dragon Age Inquisition no longer uses saved games from your system.

In order for continuity in Inquisition, you need to recreate your characters/choices/romances/etc in Dragon Age Keep. This information is then imported into Inquisition. I set up my DA:O and DA:2 worlds here, imported them when I started a new game in Inquisition, and found that the world was consistent with the choices I made in the previous two games.

If you don't set this up in the Keep, Inquisition imports the "Standard" world setting, where the choices may be very different than the ones you made in previous games.

As for technical issues/glitches/etc I didn't experience any, however I've recently upgraded my PC, so that may have something to do with it.

The Keep was implemented so you can play the games of the series on different platforms, and still have continuity across the series. Ie: Played DA:O & DA:2 on PC, but then get Inquisition on PS you can still have all your choices reflected in Inquisition.

Hi everyone!

Thank you very much, Miskatonic and Codey Amprim, for your good wishes that you posted for me. It was a very cool day, even though I have not tried Dragon Age Inquisition yet. At the moment I am fixing some trouble that has arisen from the installation of a new HDMI cable between my PS3 and my TV... It's not transmitting very well.

I'll be checking that site for clues and information about Gameplay of DA.I, thanks!

Please do not hesitate to share spoilers with me, I have never been bothered by that kind of thing and I'll be needing loads of help with this game, anyway. I am a terrible gamer, after all... The part about leading an entire team of warriors as the Inquisitor sounds complicated, but I am sure it's going to be a lot of fun.

The gameplay looks very beautiful in Youtube videos, so full of great colors and cool Magic...

Definitely check out guides on the companion A.I. This way you can set the spell priorities and the behaviors they follow. There's a tactical screen where you basically freeze time and set the actions you want your characters to take against the enemies you are facing before you go into battle. It does slow things down a bit but will improve your chances for victory.

One bit of advice I can give you is stay far away from dragons, they will wipe your party out very quickly. There aren't a lot of them but you need to be at a pretty high level to stand a chance.

Also, if you plan on romancing a companion you won't be able to access the actual score to see how many points you have accumulated. However there are plenty of guides that show you which choices certain companions will approve or disapprove of.

Thank you very much, Miskatonic.

I have already installed and played Dragon Age Inquisition in my PS3. It was very nice at first because I created this beautiful Mage lady to be my character, and the world of Thedas looked and felt superb. I was having great fun leading the other characters through the snowy mountains, but then trouble began:

The audio vanished suddenly, then it returned... I was just about to reach the largest Rift that we had seen so far, and then the game Crashed. It was not an ordinary freeze, it was one of those complete Crashes that force you to turn off the console by force and risk damaging its memory or the hard drive in the process.

I was alarmed because this should never happen to a new game, especially considering that I spent a long time downloading software updates and patches before playing for the first time...

After this happened I began to research a little on the Internet, and I discovered bad news: The PS3 and X360 versions of Dragon Age Inquisition are broken and nearly unplayable, not to mention that they can potentially damage a console. There are loads of people complaining about the same things that happened to me.

It's sad especially because it was one of my birthday presents, but this has opened my eyes...

I have finally decided to get the Playstation 4, in January if possible... and you can be sure that DA-I is going to be one of the very first games that I'll purchase for that great console.

Thanks for the tips! I'll post in this thread again in January =)

I just bought the deluxe edition of DA:I a few weeks ago, and I'm completely hooked! I got it used at GameStop for eighteen bucks, but you'd never guess it's secondhand. The smooth gameplay and awesome characters make it a great experience. I was motivated to buy the game after seeing Matt Rhodes' concept art for its development. The visual design is phenomenal!

I chose a Dalish rogue for my Inquisitor. He's awesome, but the rogue class has a lot more limitations and is overall more difficult to play than the warrior classes. But I enjoy the challenge; it's fun figuring out the best battle strategies for a player whose weapons are restricted to a bow or double knives. All of my friends who play the game have warriors, and they like to scoff at my rogue. What they don't realize is that I have a better chance of getting out of a fight alive. ;)

So you had trouble with the PS3 version, Sheila? I've got it for PS3 as well, but I haven't had any problems. How far into the gameplay did it freeze up? (I'm guessing it was just before the rift in the Frostback Mountains where the Pride Demon is first introduced.) I'm ten hours or more into the game and have had no freezes or bugs.

Hello Tom!

It's great to hear that the PS3 version of D.A. Inquisition has been working fine for you. I am not sure what happens with this game, but for the moment I am not willing to risk playing it again in fear that it may crash and damage my PS3. Yes, the great crash happened during the first adventures of the game at the snowy mountains.

I hope that the game will continue to work excellent in your PS3, but this is what I discovered: Please Fix Dragon Age Inquisition. And right now I have found this also: Dragon Age Freezes.

Instead of risking damage to my PS3, I'll wait to play D.A. Inquisition in the PS4.

That's too bad. It's an excellent game, and it's not fair to you that it doesn't function correctly. I hope you'll get a chance to play it soon!

Hi Sheila. A belated happy birthday and I hope you manage to get the PS4 soon and can play DAI without those crashes!

I started playing DAI a little while ago and recently had some leave from work so have played it more. Its a wonderful game, feels very much like the Mass Effect series with the RPG elements and characters, I guess because its made by Bioware.

I wont give spoilers but my main advice is to get out of the hinterlands and go exploring other places by visiting the war table - I love the landscapes in the game, the are so different and beautiful, reminds me of Skyrim - valleys, swamps, forests, deserts. I like the fact that you can have a go with different characters, so even if you find a rogue limiting, just fight with one of your NPC party members who is a mage or warrior. I find myself fighting with party members from time to time, even if the main Inquisitor dialogue remains the same.

Hello Bronze!

What a pleasant surprise to see you posting around here, it has been some time and I miss you. I hope that we'll have the chance to chat for awhile one of these nights (or days, from your point of view!), that would be great... So you are a player of Dragon Age Inquisition too?

Excellent!

The other night I tried to play DA-I again, and it worked well for a considerable time. I passed the part when everybody fights the big monster, after that I sealed the great rift and some time later my Mage lady awakened inside of a little house. She is respected now, and they trust her to continue the fight against these invaders from the sky or whatever they are.

Then, right after a few other characters were introduced and I opened the War Table for the first time... Total Freeze Again!

I may give it a third chance just to try and get to the Hinterlands, but if it crashes again I'll definitely sell the game because I do not want to risk damaging my PS3. Sadly, I have cancelled my project to get the PS4 this month and I am not sure when it's going to be possible to purchase it.

Have a great time!
