Barbarian fantasy?

I want to know about any modern "Barbarian Fantasy" stories if there are any. By this I mean something like sword and sorcery but set in a world resembling a pseudo-stone-age or half stone age in which there are tribal kingdoms and what-not. Sorcerers are typically baddies, think Conan, Fire and Ice by Ralph Balski (if you haven't watched that film do yourself a favor and watch it. The thing is free on youtube), and Fafrhd and the Gray Mouser ( to a lesser extent. And forgive me if I made a mistake placing them here as I've yet to read the books. Yet.)

Term you're looking for is 'Heroic Fantasy.'

Barbarians of the Conan variety were big in fantasy up until about thirty years ago. Since then, not so much.

Recently...hmm...Erikson in his 'Malazan' series has a prominent barbarian character, but also lots of assassins, mages, and warriors.

George R Martins 'Song of Ice and Fire' features abundant savage fighters.

As to Fafrhd and the Grey Mouser, well Fafrhd fits the barbarian hero mode fairly well, though he becomes civilized over time. The Mouser is more of an urbanite, a master thief and swordsman. Interestingly, while evil wizards abound, both characters work with 'patron magicians' of great ability.
