text missing from left margin

I've never seen that arrow thingie. I use both Chrome and Firefox, all on windows and never on phone or a tablet setting. Maybe it has to do with mobile interface? The missing text does seem to correspond to a sort of ghost image of the left-pointing arrow.

How about touch screen? Do you use that?

The ghost arrow feels very CSS or maybe Javascript-y.

I'm getting it too. Firefox has just updated and I wasn't seeing it before...
It looks like it is there on any posts with more than two lines of main text.

So for instance, I've darkened the Icon border and Comment Area border to show that arrow that seems to be ghosting:

So in the previous image I uploaded first, there's this example of ghosting which looks like the same size and shape for that arrow portion of the comment bubble:

It's been a while since I did any CSS design work, but this sort of looks like an issue with how that arrow is added to complete the comment bubble?

I'd note that the final image was from my Android; the arrow looks gray on the tablet. With my PC, it's simply white like the rest of the comment bubble....and like the first image in this comment. The comment bubble border is very light and harder to see on my PC (why I darkened it.)

Edit: Going on a limb here, heh, but if there are two different images, a gray arrow for tablets and an all-white arrow for PC, then maybe the tablet view inserts the gray arrow and this displaces the white arrow (which probably shouldn't be included in the tablet view at all.)

I'm just going from my limited example comparing my Android tablet view vs my PC view. It may not be a tablet vs PC thing, but different browsers or operating systems or...? It seems like an image displacement thing.

I think that's right. I'm on my desktop and I don't see any arrows by the avatar or over the post. On my laptop I see the arrow next to the avatar, and sometimes it's gray?

I never paid any attention to the arrow before. Am I viewing the site in two different modes from the two computers?

(edit)

I had originally said so, and then edited it out because I wasn't sure. Now that I've switched to the laptop, I can say that when the glitch is happening for me the arrow by the avatar turns grey. So it's a white arrow with a grey arrow underneath it, and the white arrow is moving.

I just upgraded XenForo to the latest version. The release notes say that this version corrects some CSS issues. Please try clearing your browser's cache, and then let us know if the problem is resolved.

I cleared my cache for Chrome on my tablet, but I'm still getting the same problem.

And now I'm also getting that problem with my PC, after clearing the cache in Chrome, and the arrow is gray on my PC the way it was gray in my tablet before (and still is, on my tablet.) Previously, the arrow was white on my PC.

I just checked using the Microsoft Edge browser on my PC, and the arrow is white, with no ghosting. So it seems to be dependent on the browser used.

Me too.

I've been able to remove that out-of-place white arrow, using both chrome and edge developer tools to modify the style for it by adding "display:none;"

This fixes the problem of text being covered in Chrome and doesn't seem to cause a problem in Edge--except, now in both cases the arrow remains gray. So it may not be an ideal solution.

Don't know if this will help. It's been years and years since I did any design work, and I have no knowledge of how to target Chrome specifically (or any other browser) using CSS. A little light reading suggests that a javascript solution might be better. The image above shows the style in the bottom right side. If "display:block;" is changed to "display:none;" you get the result I mentioned above.

I am so glad I no longer wrestle with these demons. It was fun for a decade or so, then it just became wearying.

Maybe Xenoforo would respond, if you sent them this information? I gotta believe we're not the only ones to notice.

Yeah, I spent a decade or so designing my own websites; playing with CSS and HTML was often more fun than actually, you know, posting content to the sites, heh.

But web standards have moved forward so fast since that time, new browsers and changes to standards, I've been left far behind in that respect.

I may have spoken too early on Edge. I cleared my cache in Edge, and now I'm getting the text being covered up on it as well...

Edit: Haven't had Firefox in years, just downloaded it, and I'm getting the same missing text on it.

Thank you everyone for your help. Unfortunately, I could not find a way to resolve the issue with the arrow. Therefore, I decided to change the design of the messages, so that the arrow is no longer used. Let me know if this is working for you.
