You deserve an ice cream. Even just sending the manuscript off to an editor takes moxey. Go you! My editor is my wife. Think that makes things easier? I bet your editor doesn't laugh at your typos from 18 inches away.

On the other hand, she's awfully cute.

At some point I decided to take the hobby seriously, and spend money on an editor. This only works because 1. I can afford it 2. I only finish a book once every few years 3. Besides the editing, there aren't many expenses in writing.
I was reading Gerald Durrell s intro to one of his novels. He describes his wife reading the manuscript and laughing. He thought she really enjoyed the book, till she explained that she was laughing at his spelling....

Covers. Covers can be one of our biggest expenses, after cons, but most of the time you get what you pay for, and we paid for these. It wasn't egregiously pricey, but still dropping several hundred dollars on each cover stings a bit, especially because we're still in very early days with the series and don't have that income to balance it all out.


They also do the artwork for these.

Rewriting to the point of exhaustion is very hard. You are not the only one going through this way.

I couldn't think of a 'proper' villain for one of my projects for weeks. Then it hit me.
Why do I need a 'villain' at all? (At least the 'big evil idiot that you punch at the end of the story' kind)
I made 'it' an actual force of nature that needs to be quelled every now and again.
The interesting part is I can still treat it like a character, plenty of films, books, and games treat these sorts of villains this way.
