My brain kinda does this stuff normally. Not sure why.

One thing I'd like to add, is that maybe rather than doing this as stated in the post, you could always take certain elements of this (for example, I was inspired by a woman who sat across from me in the waiting room at the doctor one day) and file this into an "inspiration" folder. Sometimes, when you need a background character, rather than making one up on the fly, you can take one from the folder and plug it in (the old woman with the hunched back became an alewife in my book, not someone important, but when I saw her, I couldn't help but fill in the details of her life as I imagined them. She became a character solid enough to use in the background, for a little color and authenticity?).

I definitely connect with most of these strategies.
