Carlos Castaneda (fictional) works. Would such a story style/structuring work today?

Hi,

I have a question for those who are familiar with the (fiction/hoax) works of Carlos Castaneda.
To me, the story line doesn't really follow the "rules" of fiction writing. Sort of like in screenwriting with Blair Witch compared against the X-Men series.

Do you think audiences today would accept a story structure like it?

Sort of like if you have a piano piece, most people would expect a substantial amount of left accompaniment notes to go with the melody line but if it isn't, it goes against expectations and might not be well received regardless of how nice the melody is.

Write it and see. Presenting a fantasy story as if it were real would require some clever writing, but there's nothing in the idea that makes me think it is impossible. All the impossible stuff has already been done anyway, by 20thc writers. They pretty much broke all the literary molds, baked some new ones of their own, then broke those, too.
