'Over' will probably take multiple lawsuits (best case) or a major internet crash that would cripple civilization. AI (and the needed data centers) re being pushed very, very hard.

More on point: I am seeing a lot of very short AI-generated clips and music videos on Facebook, ranging from horrible to scary-good in terms of quality. I can easily see Disney CEO types using AI to produce movies on the cheap.

While I do think Disney management is viewing AI as part of the future for generating their content, I think there's a simpler and more direct reason for this deal. And that's money and lawsuits. By signing this deal, Disney can now prove in court that giving AI access to their content is a way to make them money. And any AI that doesn't have a licensing deal with them and scrapes their content is in a way costing Disney money. It's an easy way to prove the lost revenue for Disney.

Sidenote, I also believe Disney is slowly forgetting that it's quality we want, not quantity. And that people would be more than willing to pay for quality. Lowering your cost by using AI while reducing quality (such as is still left...) is a bad long term strategy. Though I'm not sure they get that.

Naw, we want both, quantity and quality. We are certainly consuming artistic creations (doesn't have to be *good* art) at a record pace. Any company that doesn't keep up is going to get a smaller and smaller share of the pie. It's possible to do that, of course. Sort of like in the game industry, you can choose to be an artisanal shop or you can choose to play in the big leagues, with all the opportunities and compromises that come with that.

And yes, some of those compromises pull downward into various circles of Hell.

We Humanity are. However, I personally don't. I only have so many hours in a day or week to spend watching stuff. I have no time to follow all 238 different Marvel series on Disney+ and no desire to view them if they're not good enough. If the Rings of Power series on Amazon would have been great, with a cultural impact like the Game of Thrones series, then that would have been a reason for me to get Amazon Prime, just so I could watch it. And it probably would have been one of the few things I'd watched while it was out.

Having one series like Breaking Bad is more reason to go to a specific service than having two dozen series like The Accolyte.

Same with games by the way. There's a reason GTA V and Skyrim are still great sellers. They both offer a lot of playability and they are still the game to beat in their respective areas.
