Hullo Everyone!

Greetings! My name is Pablo, from Mexico (which might strike some of you as odd) Anyway, I've been searching far and wide; skimming through several writer's forums to find the one I felt most cozy (and interesting, for that matter ;D). So I stumbled upon this site and lurked for a couple of days. Have to admit I simply loved it! So that hopefully means I'll stay around much longer.

I've been writing something myself over the past few months but with college and all, there's barely any time to continue on with my novel. Still, hope dies last, or so they say ;D.

I'm looking forward to getting to know as many of you as possible and will try to be as helpful as I can

i Hola Pablo!

Welcome! I've been to other fantasy forums too, and this is probably the best place to chat about the genre-- especially if you're a writer. It's a lot of fun reading and sharing ideas, and everyone here seems pretty cool and friendly. I'm sure you'll find some very interesting conversations here.

So what part of Mexico are you from? Is fantasy popular there? Is your novel written in Spanish?

Thanks for the warm welcome!

I'm from the central region. Well, a bit to the south of the capital (a city-town called Cuernavaca). As to your second question I can't really say. Reading is not a favoured activity here and those who do read have very select niches; although fantasy films are, for the most part, well received. It's a bit complicated, but at least there are some avid, fantasy-loving readers amongst us. And no, my book is actually written in English ;D (I've spoken it since I was three and I find it easier to write in English than in Spanish). The ideas, on the other hand, flow in all sorts of languages :)

I think people are just reading less and less-- no matter what language... :(

You know, I've been to Mexico City a few years ago, and I thought it was really cool! A lot of nice places to just relax and share a caguama with friends. Good food too!

So what kind of fantasy do you like? Any influences?

Yes, it seems like so. Either they don't have the time or the interest. But as long as there are people willing to tell their stories and those willing to read them, we'll have countless marvels for years to come.

I know, there are pubs and night clubs all over the place. If there is one thing I love about it is that there is always something different to do and new places to see. Glad you liked it ;D If you ever happen to come again do not hesitate to let me know.

Hmm well I enjoy all sorts of fantasy but I'd say high fantasy has it in for me. I'm currently trying (if college lets me) to finish reading the first volume of A Song of Ice and Fire. I've also had my fair share of video games so I've been influenced by everything from Tolkien and C.S. Lewis, to more modern authors like Terry Goodkind, and some RPG's as well. I believe every story that was written for the sake of being told has something worthy in it.

Pablo,

Welcome. Hope your classwork is going well and that you're able to find time to write. Glad you joined us.

Pablo -

Welcome! I too am just getting started into the works of George RR Martin. I'm liking the experience so far.

Mexico doesn't sound odd at all; we are an international forum and you'll find our experiences vary greatly here. I've spent a lot of time in Mexico myself, mostly Ixtapa and the Zihua area...it's a bit of a second or third home. Ever been to that coast?

Thank you all for all the words of welcome :)

Map the Dragon, glad you come visit every now and then. Yes, I've been to that area; although not frequently but I do enjoy them. The Mayan Riviera on Yucatan is also something worth visiting if rivers and the ocean appeal to you. It does have a lot of gorgeous, second-to-none sights, but then again, every country has it's unique touch of beauty
